Insp. Monday Orukpe laid to rest

____ As police shun burial.

The remains of late police Inspector Monday Orukpe who was allegedly murdered by soldiers of the Nigerian Army has been buried today in his home town in Edo State.

Inspector Orukpe was attached to the Trade Fair division Lagos state police command Ikeja and was assisting to aid free flow of traffic on the Lagos- Badagry Express road when the soldiers who were held in the gridlock bounced on him and beat him to death.

Following his burial, his family members stated that no policeman attended the burial.

" We buried him today November 18th . No policeman accompanied his corpse to the village and there was no police presence during the burial. This really made us sad. Our brother was working somewhere when he was murdered while on legal duty. Yet after he was gruesomely murdered, the family has been abandoned. His wife is a full time house wife who has four children. How will she cope as she does not have a job nor business. We expected the police to follow us and be around during the burial but they didn't show up ". said Mr. Alama Orukpe

His family has since demanded for justice as the appeal to the police high command to ensure that his killers are brought to book.

" There is nothing we can do but to continue to demand that the soldiers that killed him should not go scot free. We demand for justice".

" We don't have money to bury Insp Monday Orukpe, pay his mortuary bills"

----- condemn alleged release of ten soldiers who beat Inspector Orukpe to death.

The family members of late police Inspector Monday Orukpe who was allegedly beaten to death by Nigerian soldiers while he was on official duty assisting traffic officials to ease gridlock on the Lagos - Badagry Express road at the  Trade Fair area in Lagos State have expressed sadness over the alleged  shifting of the burial expenses for the late Orukpe to them to bear.
This, according to the family members is rubbing salt to thier pain.
Mr Alama Orukpe an elder brother of the deceased Inspector while speaking on the burial plans for the late Orukpe whose autopsy has been released , said the police and the army authorities have not contacted the family members since the killing of the Inspector.
He said " All the while, we were waiting for the autopsy to be out and now that it is out, the next thing is for us to bury him. We went to see the Area commander under which is Division falls and we were told that we should look for money to bury our Inspector brother Monday Orukpe whom the soldiers beat up mercilessly to death. We said why should this be our responsibility but we were informed that is the procedure. That we should first burial him with our money and then later prepare his documents so that we can claim his N500,000 benefits. We told the police that we do not have money and the mortuary bills running into more than N200,000 has been shifted to us to pay. We are told to pay for the mortuary bill and cater for the burial. This is very sad. Our brother was killed in active service by our own soldiers. Since his murder, the commissioner of police in Lagos state has not invited us to his office to see him nor has the military authority contacted us. This is very disappointing and has brought more grief to the family. We were told by the police that they do not have anything to do with his burial . This is really sad".
Speaking on the arrest of the soldiers allegedly responsible for killing Inspector Orukpe, Mr. Alama Orukpe said

" We learnt that eleven soldiers were identified by the surviving policeman for assaulting him and killing Inspector Monday. The eleven soldiers were paraded twice in different clothes and the surviving policeman still identified them as the ones who attacked them. However to our surprise, we learnt that ten soldiers have been left off the hook while just one soldier is being made to take the fall for others. This is not acceptable to us. We demand that all the eleven soldiers identified should be made to face the wrath of the law".

How Naked Gunman killed father of three in UI

There is no modus operandi criminals will not

employ to carry out crime. One of such recurring scheme criminals are employing to rob and kill thier victims is though weird but seems effective for them in getting away from scene of crime. Investigation reveals that criminals are applying oil to thier bodies and appearing stark naked to attack their target. This means of of committing crime was used to kill one Mr Vincent Odinko a father of three who was shot to death by a gun man at a Boys Quarters at the Philipson street University of Ibadan. Odinko until his murder last week Friday , lived in the BQ with his wife and three children and worked in the SSCE Internal Unit, Ibadan branch of the National Examinations Council, NECO. A source who quoted the wife of the deceased , narrated how Odinko was murdered. " I went to pay condolence to the family and the wife narrated how Vincent was murdered. She told me that she had gone to bed about 1:30am and her husband was sitting in the living room working on his computer. There was sounds outside so her husband got up and said who was that and before they knew it, there was a hard kick that pulled down their door. Right in front of the door, a naked man with oil all over his body and holding a dane gun, walked into thier apartment. First of all , they were shocked at the sight of the man and as her husband made an attempt to charge at him , the naked criminal, opened fire at him on his chest. She said her husband screamed "Jesus',Jesus' and he slumped. She added that the naked gun man went into the bedroom where she and her children were . She held on tight to her children , a -3-  year old , and  one years old twins. The gun shot attracted neighbours that was what scared the armed robber to flee with laptop her husband was working with. I'm sure that the criminal fled by jumping over the fence separating the University of Ibadan and the Polytechnic Ibadan which is at Philipson street" Investigation further shows that the same modus operandi was employed by criminals when they allegedly stormed the Queen Idia hall sometimes to rob the female students. it was gathered that the armed man was stark naked, had oil all over his body and was holding a dane gun. Residents of the university have attributed the insecurities in the university to the alleged inefficiency of the security agents of the university , the perpetual strike by non teaching staff and the non deployment of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force on the campus . The source said " Well the insecurities in UI calls for urgent attention. Do you know that a security post is not too far from the street that this crime occurred. When the Chief Security Officer of the University arrived the house of the Odinko's he started talking that why did they leave so much bush around them. The strike is contributing to insecurities on campus as the security personnel in UI are not that efficient due to the fact that thier union is on strike. Also, there is no police presence per se in UI. It's high time Nigeria Police Force has a base inside the campus but the students were the ones who kicked police men out some years ago and protested that policemen on uniforms should not be seen on campus".
