POLICE ARREST WOMAN FOR STABBING DAUGHTER, 17 TO DEATH

A  45 years old woman, Kafayat Lawal has allowed her anger to get the better of her.
For being angry because her teenage daughters spent the night outside the house, she locked and   descended on them and gave her two girls the beating of their lives. Sadly her efforts to punish the girls for spending the night outside went to far as she used a broken bottle to stab   her 17 years old daughter Ayomide Adekoya to death.
Lawal  was arrested following an information received by the Divisional Police Officer of Ogijo divisional headquarters CSP Mohammed Suleman Baba at about 2;30 pm, that the suspect locked her two daughters in a room where she beat and injured them with broken bottle.
DSP Abimbola  Oyeyemi spokesperson for the Ogun state police command said " Upon the information, the Dpo mobilized his men and moved to the scene where the two victims were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment before one of them gave up the ghost.
The suspect was then arrested and taken to custody. On interrogation, the suspect who claimed to have separated from her husband nine years ago informed the police that her two daughters left home during the Salah and didn't returned till following day. This infuriated her, and when she wanted to beat them, people around pleaded on their behalf and she left them, only for them to go out again the following day and passed the night outside. It was the annoyance that made her to lock them inside and injured them both with broken bottle. The older one Blessing Adekoya 19 was injured in the hand, while her younger sister Ayomide was stabbed in the chest and unfortunately gave up the ghost while receiving treatment"

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

DCP Abba Kyari denies conniving with Hushpuppi

Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Abba Kyari a highly decorated Nigerian  police officer has  denied any connivance with Ramon Abass popularly known as Hushpuppi, saying that Hushpuppi's partner was arrested after his office was called about a potential case of threat to life.

United States authorities Wednesday said one of Nigeria's top policemen, Abba Kyari, worked with Ramon Abass, also known as Hushpuppi, to punish the latter's partner with whom he defrauded a Qatari of $1.1 million.

Kyari said Vincent was arrested and released based on an allegation of threat to life. He also said he never collected a dime from Hushpuppi.

"Abbas who we later came to know as Hushpuppi called our office about 2years ago that somebody in Nigeria Seriously threatened to kill his Family here in Nigeria and he sent the person’s Phone number and pleaded we take action before the Person attacks his family," Kyari said.

"We traced and arrested the suspect and after investigations, we discovered there wasn’t an actual threat to anyone’s life And they are long time friends who have money issues between them hence we released the Suspect on bail to go and he was not taken to any jail."

On July 22, American investigators arrested two other persons involved in the fraud. The two were believed to have been involved in laundering the proceed of the fraud.

According to the indictment, Abbas was assisted in laundering the proceeds of the fraud by Rukayat Motunraya Fashola, a.k.a. “Morayo,” 28, of Valley Stream, New York, and Bolatito Tawakalitu Agbabiaka, a.k.a. “Bolamide,” 34, of Linden, New Jersey.

Anifowoshe, Fashola and Agbabiaka are expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles in August.

Part of the money, investigators said, was converted to $50, 000 cashier checks which Hushpuppi and another conspirator used in acquiring the citizenship of Christopher and Nevis, a tiny island nation in the Caribbean also known as Sit Kitts and Nevis.

About $230,000 of the stolen funds was allegedly used to purchase a Richard Mille RM11-03 watch, which was hand delivered to Abbas in Dubai and subsequently appeared in Hushpuppi’s social media posts.

The accusation came after Hushpuppi reportedly pleaded guilty to charges of fraud in an American court on Tuesday.

"Nobody demanded any money from Abbas Hushpuppi and nobody collected any money from him," Kyari said. "We responded to a distress call he made on threat to his family and released the Suspect when we discovered there was no life threat from the suspect."

The United States Department of Justice said in a statement that Hushpuppi connived with one Abdulrahman Imraan Juma, a.k.a. “Abdul,” 28, of Kenya, and Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, 40, of Nigeria, to defraud the Qatari businessperson by claiming to be consultants and bankers who could facilitate a loan to finance the construction of a school.

The DoJ said the Kenyan national allegedly posed as a facilitator and consultant for the non-existing bank loans, while Hushpuppi acted as “Malik,” a Wells Fargo banker in New York.

Vincent was alleged to have "provided support for the false narratives fed to the victim by, among other things, creating bogus documents and arranging for the creation of a fake bank website and phone banking line."

Another Nigerian, 26-year-old Yusuf Adekinka Anifowoshe, participated in the fraud with a call to the victim posing as “Malik.” Anifowoshe was arrested on July 22.

A dispute arose in the gang with Vincent, which prompted Vincent to contact the victim and claim that Abbas and Juma were engaged in fraud.

After Vincent contacted the Qatari businessperson, court documents claimed that Hushpuppi allegedly arranged with Abba Kyari, a deputy commissioner of police, to have Vincent jailed in Nigeria.

Kyari, according to the DoJ statement, arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed. The top cop then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest as proof to Hushpuppi.

"Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment," the Department of Justice said in the statement.

Anwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani the acting Country Director of CISLAC  in his welcome address stated that the bill is long over due considering the plight of civilians who are directly bearing the brunt of conflicts in their communities. He added that the devastating effects of the conflicts have taken heavy toll on citizens and all hands must be on deck to mitigate civilians sufferings during conflicts by supporting the bill.
In its explanatory memorandum, the bill seeks to regulate the conduct of security operations, protect the civilians and mitigate harms to the civilian population during armed conflicts in Nigeria he said.
House of Representative  Security committees members  present at the retreat include  house  committee on army ,  human rights,  the Navy, Finance,Justice among others.
The Honourables   spent quality time debating the bill adding that the bill is long over -due.
They include Honourables Saidu  Musa Abdullahi the deputy chairman house committee on Finance.Defence - Zayyad Ibrahim.Army - Abdur'Razzak Sa'ad Namdas, Navy -Wale Egberongbe  Air Force - Abass Agbowarin Adigun,Interior - Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong Udo,Nat. Sec.and  Intelligence - Hon. James Adisa Owolabi,Human Rights - Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye,Justice - Hon. Chinyere Igwe, Legislative Compliance - Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji.
House committee chairman on Army Hon. Abdur'razzak Namdas said " We have been expecting this kind of retreat in more than a decade as our citizens are wounded and have become victims on a  daily basis. Their properties constantly destroyed and land are prevented from being cultivated all in the name of tackling insecurity. The army in no means is overstretched and we need to use both kinetic and non kinetic methods to solve this problem. It is important that every security actor has a responsibility to protect and mitigate harms to civilians that will occur as a result of persons, activities , operations and I assure you that the committee on the Army is ready to give the necessary support , contribution towards the institutionalisation of the framework inline with the standing orders of the 9th Assembly of the 1999 constitution as well as International and humanitarian and human rights laws. We will take  the ownership of the proposed bill".
Honourable Egberongbe Mufutau Adewale representing Apapa federal constituency, Lagos state and a member of the House committee on Navy said in order to tackle insecurity and other vices, there is the urgent need to focus on vocational education for the youth.
" there is urgent need to review our school curriculum to focus on vocational education to have employers of labour. It is also important for government to provide the enabling environment for small businesses to thrive. The provision of incentives ,intelligence gathering mechanism, use of local chiefs and improving our security architecture. Social media should be looked into to stop instigating people and the military should have advocacy with the civilians. In addition, rule of engagement, training of civilians and soldiers on rule of engagement. There is need for devolution of power and practising true federalism".
In his comment on the proposed bill, honourable Abbas Adigun the deputy chairman ,house committee on armed forces who represented the chairman said " Civilians are paying daily due to this conflict. If we have this bill, we will support it and punishment for perpetrators as there is a need to address and give succour to those who have lost family members and property".
Honourable Prince  Rotimi , a member of the House committee on Human Rights said it is important to address the fundamental problem causing the conflict. " We need to ask ourselves, how did we get to this point we are in today? It was the laxcadicial attitude of past leaders. I'm telling you, if the Chibok girls were rescued immediately this situation will not be so. What is the strength of our army? The police and Air force? The army is overstretched and a situation where people who are supposed to be protecting us are being protected. In so there is need to uphold the rights of the protected and ensure no harm comes their way".
Honourable  Saidu  Musa Abdullahi the deputy chairman House committee on Finance said " The bill is timely and coming a bit late. As we speak civilians are being kidnapped. The  bill will provide a legal framework for our foot soldiers and this is a welcome one. It is not all about having problems but having a way to incorporate non state actors to come in as a way to negotiate. There should be a way to mitigate the effects of conflicts on the civilians. I assure you , this bill will get the necessary support from the house committee on Finance ".

Honourable Chinyere Igwe member of the Justice committee said " For any bill to be justiable, for it to have effects of law, the Justice committee will necessary be an actor. So can dot the i's and cross the ts' so that it can go through the rudiments of the national Assembly.
During the course of the session, CIVIC  presented a lecture on the "understanding of the evolution of Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict: the legal framework, the reality and the legislative responsibility "  while session two focused on the review of the protection of Civilians bill.

1ST JULY, 2021 AT IBADAN, OYO"  read

In the early hours (about 0134 hours) of today, 1st July, 2021, a joint team of security operatives raided the residence of Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo a.k.a. SUNDAY IGBOHO at Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State. This was based on intelligence that he had stockpiled arms in the place. On approach to the residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine (9) men, suspected to be IGBOHO’s guards. Six (6) of them were armed with AK-47 gun and Three (3) others, with Pump-Action riffles.

2. In the course of the exchange, two (2) of IGBOHO’s armed men were gunned down while the rest were subdued and arrested.  Only one operative who was shot by the assailants on his right hand sustained injury. He has however received medical attention and is very stable.

vii. Ayobami DONALD
viii. Adelabe USMAN
ix. Oluwafelumi KUNLE
x. Raji KAZEEM
xi. Taiwo OPEYEMI and
xii. Bamidele SUNDAY.

5. Highlights of this brief are to:
i. Inform Nigerians and the world that Sunday IGBOHO and his group, in the guise of campaign for self-determination, have become well-armed and determined to undermine public order. This, the arrests and seizures are, no doubt, a confirmation of a grand plan by IGBOHO and his cohorts to wage a violent insurrection against the Nigerian State.
ii. Alert foreign missions and licencing authorities within and outside Nigeria about this development and the possibility that IGBOHO could declare some of his personal permit and identity cards missing in order to seek their replacement.
iii. Apprise stakeholders that the Five (5) AK-47 assault rifles recovered from the building are suspected to be those  collected by IGBOHO’s men from Nigerian Customs and Immigration personnel at Idi Iroko, Ogun State.

6. The gun duel which lasted for an hour offered IGBOHO the chance to escape. Sunday ADEYEMO a.k.a Sunday IGBOHO is now on the run. IGBOHO may run as far as he can. He may hide as long as he wants.  He might have attacked security operatives as his strength carried him.  But this will be the end of his shenanigans. Soon, he will not have a hiding place. His strength will sure fail him. And the law will catch up with him. The law may be slow. But it will be steady.

7. Consequently, ADEYEMO/IGBOHO is advised to turn himself in to the nearest security agency. Those cheering and eulogising him may appeal to or advise him to do the needful. He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law. Meanwhile, those arrested will be charged accordingly.
