Road named after Local Government chairman is a dead trap- residents cry out.

Residents of Otia - Igbanomaje community  in Otukpo local government area in Benue State are calling on the governments to urgently come to their aid as bad roads in their community have become a dead trap for the over one million   residents.
They added that the roads have become impassable and all their efforts to sand fill and rehabilitate them to make them passable  have proved abortive.
One of such roads  according to investigation, is the George Ali Road  named after the Otukpo Local Government Chairman at Otia- Igbanomaje  community which  has become worst after contractors abandoned the road and this has worsen the bad state of the road.
When our correspondent visited the George Ali Road, a car, a container laden truck  and a tricycle  conveying fire woods were stuck in the mud.
A resident Maria Ekubeyela said " whenever it rains, the road is filled up with water which led to the death of a 4 year old boy returning from school as the water swept him away. I deal in firewood and the truck conveying the woods got stuck on the George Ali Road"

Another resident John Oche said " My dad was very ill but there was no road to take him through to the hospital. We had to drive through people's houses so as to get him to hospital. It was a terrible experience. When he died at home at night, we could not  take his corpse through the George Ali road which is the major road connecting Otia Igbanamaje community to the outside world. We were stuck  with his corpse in the car for hours until we find our way through people's houses as the George Ali  road was impassable".
A motorcycle rider Daniel Ejeh said " I do not take passengers to Otia Iganomaje community because their roads are very bad. If I must go, I increase the fare from N50 to N100. Last weekend, a family which lost their dad had to sandfill the road with bricks they bought  and the youth worked from morning till noon to make it motorable but this is a temporary measure as soon as the rain falls, it will wash away all their efforts ".

We have more than 1000 policemen in Kastina State

RE-THIRTY (30) POLICEMEN MANNING 100 VILLAGES IN KATSINA

The attention of Katsina state Police Command has been drawn to an online Newspaper publication in which a statement was credited to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Katsina state and the Chief Security Officer of the state to the effect that, Katsina state has less than thirty (30) Policemen policing more than one hundred (100) villages.  That statement must have either been reported consequent upon a misinformation available to His Excellency, or he was reported out of context.  This is because there are thirty-Eight (38) Divisions, cutting across thirty four (34) Local Government Areas in the state and none of these Police Divisions has less than fifty (50) policemen as it stands today some Divisions even have more than hundred (100) policemen.

2.  The issue of numerous villages in a Local Government most of whom are virtually inaccessible and vulnerable to crime is an undisputed fact.  And the inadequate ratio of policemen per citizen in the country at large cannot be over stretched.   That is the reason why the Force Management under the able leadership of the present Inspector-General of Police, has taken very seriously the issue of Community Policing in order to partner with members of the communities in policing their areas and building trust and confidence between the police and communities.  This is the most acceptable practice all over the world.

3.  The geographical spread and number of villages in each Local Government in the state is such that it is practically impossible to deploy policemen permanently to each village, but with proper road networks it will be easier for the police and other Law enforcement agencies to access these villages in the event of distress call and also extend regular patrols to such villages.  The Katsina state Government is a strategic partner in that direction and they are working assiduously to open-up road networks across the state in addition to the existing ones, to facilitate effective policing of those multiple agrarian villages in partnership with their individual communities.

4.    Suffice it to also add that, as far as the ongoing onslaught against banditry and kidnapping by the Joint Security Forces is concern, the Police has the compliment of not only the existing “Operation Puff Adder” deployed across the eight (8) frontline LGAs, in addition to the men in the Divisions, but also additional Units made up of Police Mobile Force (PMF) men, Safer Highway  Patrol Teams,,  Special Forces, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), equipped with APCs, and other equipment deployed by the Inspector-General of Police in the fight against banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery.
