Breaking : Youth take protest against SARS to Lagos State police command

 -- Lagos CP addresses protesters, assures of police reform


 A group of young Nigerians under the aegis of Gravel are staging a protest infront of the Lagos State police command . 
The Gravel young Nigerians said the protest is  in their bid for police authority and the government to disband a police outfit called Special Anti-robbery Squad popularly known as SARS. 


The protesters were seen in front of the Lagos state High court along the Oba Akinjobi Way dancing and displaying their placards. Some of the placards read " Reform Police, Disband SARS" while policemen were seen  on ground to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order during the protest. 

The Lagos State police command Commissioner of police CP Hakeem Odumosu met with the protesters and assured them that the police authority is committed to overhauling the SARS.  
He said " I can assure you that your petition has been acknowledged and I will ensure that the Inspector General of Police get your petition tomorrow morning.". 
The leader of the protest who simply identifed himself as Tayo said " We are professionals and free spirited Nigerians. We are not being bankrolled by anyone. We are protesting because we do not want the labour of our leaders past to be in vain. We raised seven points in our petition to the IGP. We want a total disbandment of SARS.SARS as the nomenclature is dreadful to Nigerian youth. All SARS operatives who have been indicted for extra judicial killing should be prosecuted,  their names published. Every victims of SARS killings and harassment should be indentified and compensated in the spirit of fairness and Justice. All SARS cells across the country should be opened to private inspection. We demand that tags on policemen with their names and job details. There should be a medium for tracking cases with the police"
The youth were seen setting up tent in front of the Lagos State High Court  as they said  that they will sleep and eat  in the open until their demands are met. They vow to occupy the command until the government yield to their demands.
