A foremost Human Rights Organization in Lagos the Ambassador for Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF) expresses
deep concern over a disturbing case involving the alleged sexual abuse
of a three-year-old girl in the Ejigbo area of Lagos state as well as
troubling developments surrounding the handling of the matter.
The
case came to the attention of AMPEF following a distress call received
on March 20, 2026. Upon intervention, representatives of the Foundation
visited the residence of the child’s mother, Mrs. Ogechi Okoye, in the
Powerline area of Ejigbo, where she was observed with visible injuries.
She alleged that she had been physically assaulted by individuals
seeking to pressure her into withdrawing a case of sexual assault of her
two daughters age 3 and 6 from the Lagos State Police Command Gender
Unit.
According to her account, the alleged
incident occurred in early December 2025, involving a suspect identified
as “Monday.” Two additional minors, aged five and eight, are also
reportedly linked to the case, with allegations of similar abuse.
AMPEF
is particularly concerned by the conflicting medical reports
associated with the 3 year old child’s condition. An initial
examination conducted at the Mirabel Centre reportedly attributed the
child’s symptoms to an infection. However, a subsequent medical
evaluation, conducted at a different facility with the approval of the
appropriate authorities, reportedly revealed findings consistent with
sexual assault. This discrepancy raises serious concerns regarding the
accuracy, thoroughness, and integrity of the initial medical assessment.
The
Foundation is further troubled by allegations of intimidation and
possible interference. Comrade Prince Saviour Iche the founder of AMPEF
and Comrade Leye Solomon the Case Manager at AMPEF visited the victim's
mother and they expressed worries over the poor handling of the sexual
assault of the child and the pitiable situation they found the victim.
"
Our attention was drawn to this case when the mother of the abused
children reported a case of physical assault on her by persons sent to
her house to threaten her to withdraw the case".
It
was gathered that that a sum of N4million was allegedly given to an
NGO led by one Barr. Toyin Ndidi by the perpetrator and his family to
allegedly discontinue with the case and bribe the mother of the victim
to withdraw the case from the Gender Unit while another human rights
advocate formerly a Social Worker with the Advocates for Children and
Vulnerable Persons Network
ACVPN identified simply as Blessing allegedly received the sum of
N150,000 as an inducement to discontinue with the case and report the
case as simply infection so that the report will not incriminate the
perpetrator. Sources said while Barr Ndidi allegedly claimed that the
N4million was meant to support her NGO work, adding that she receives
grants for her NGO , the human rights advocate Blessing however denied
collecting the said bribe. It was also gathered that the doctor at
Mirable Centre who churned out the alleged first report of mere
infection has been suspected by rights groups to be dubious in
doctoring fake medical reports of sexual assaults to vindicate
perpetrators but there has not been a confirmed evidence against him,
an allegation it was learnt was denied by the Mirable Centre and the
said doctor .
The
mother of the abused child however said as a way to sway her to abandon
the case the NGO led by Barr Ndidi rented another apartment for her
which is not that
befitting and promised to give her N50, 000 every month if she withdraws
the case. She added that since the alleged bribe , the perpetrator and
his cohorts have become embolden to challenge her and demand that she
withdrew the case failure which has led them to assault her in her house
.
AMPEF said "
These so called human rights advocates we learnt from the victim's
mother connived with Miracle Centre to
bring out a fake medical report that the girl has virginal infection
whereas the perpetrator confessed to them that he inserted his finger
into this girl's virginal for months which had caused her hymen to be
broken and mucous and blood are dripping from her vagina . The child’s
mother has
alleged that she was offered financial inducements and subjected to
physical violence in an attempt to silence her and obstruct the pursuit
of justice. Following this, the woman refused to withdraw the case which
led to her beating. She was beaten up so badly and her eye is swollen.
" Comrade Prince Saviour added " Our concern is to get justice for the
abused child because she is in a terrible state with pain. Imagine a
three year old girl living with such pain with mucous and blood dripping
from her private part and and her mother who is already traumatized
is facing further victimisation to go and withdraw the case from the
police station Anybody found to have compromised in this
case must be made to face the wrath of the law".
In view of the foregoing, AMPEF calls for:
The case to be handled by the Sexual Offences court of Lagos state instead of the Magistrate court .
An immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse.
A comprehensive review of the medical examinations and reports issued in this case.
Protection and support measures for the victim, her mother, and other affected minors.
A full inquiry into allegations of intimidation, obstruction, and attempted cover-up.
Accountability for any individuals or institutions found culpable.
This
case is of critical public importance. It involves the welfare of
vulnerable children and the integrity of institutions entrusted with
their protection. AMPEF reiterates that justice must not be compromised
under any circumstances.
The Foundation urges all
relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to ensure that the
truth is uncovered and justice is served.
