A broad day light armed robbery at the Sango market in Ibadan Oyo state has left traders, motorists and customers in fear.
The incident which occurred about 10am on Friday was shocking and distressing as it is coming barely one month after the owner of Zooma supermarket Dr. Dolapo Tejumola was killed by suspected armed robbers in her house at the Bodija area of the state.
It was gathered that a man simply identified as Yusuf who sells rice in the market was the target of the armed robbery.
Eyewitnesses stated that the armed robber targeted the victim as he crossed the road and ordered him to handover the cash he was carrying but he refused and in thier bid to force him to let go of the cash, they shot him in the right hand and fled on a motorcycle.
A trader who requested anonymity said " We came to shop early this morning about 10am and as we were displaying our goods, we heard a gunshot and the next thing was Yusuf lying and writhing in pains. The shooting happened so fast Blood was gushing out of his right hand . We rushed to help him but the armed robber fled. It's seems that the armed robber knows his movement because he was carrying cash to go to the market to buy rice. He is a major dealer in rice in Sango market and he supplies those hawkers who sell in wheel barrows. What is obvious is that this armed robbers knows him and his movement "
Another trader at the market who identified herself as Funmi said " I am shocked this happened in broad daylight. The armed robber or armed robbers targeted him. His fellow Hausa brothers rushed him to the hospital".
When our Correspondent visited the scene of the crime, there were blood stain on the road side where the said trader was shot. It was observed that traders, and other motorists were seen discussing the incident as they pray for the victim to recover from the gunshot wound.
Reacting to the incident, another trader , who identified himself as Ola said
" You can see that everywhere is tense. Traders are scared and customers,
motorists are discussing the incident in fear . It is Yusuf today , we don't know who else will become a target for armed robbers tomorrow. We pray that God will continue to help us. If the country is hard , it's not the fault of traders , targeting us will not solve the hunger in the land ".
