Why enforcing the Okada ban is a mirage

According to interview with some Okada riders, cum operators, These are some reasons why policemen have not been able to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle popularly known as okada  in Lagos state. 

1. Security operatives are the riders. Junior policemen take to okada riding as another means of income. Likewise other security operatives ride Okada and commercial vehicles in the state. 

2   Okada riding is lucrative  a means of making quick money without much stress. 

3.  It's a fast and easy  way of  getting employed. 

4. It's an answer to the Lagos gridlock  for some residents. A quick way to get to destinations in a traffic prone state like Lagos .

5. illegal levy collectors empower the riders to stay put. 

6. Lack of job opportunities in the formal sector. 

6. Poverty/ hash economic realities. 

7. Adult illiteracy among men. 

8. Civil disobedience. 

9. Government inability to provide socio- economic alternatives that will entice riders.

10. Self employment drive.
