Man to spend 21 years in Prison for defrauding US based businesswoman and circulating her nude pictures online

An Ikeja High court has sentenced one Adesanya Femi Paul to 21 years in prison.
The accused was arraigned over allegations he duped a  businesswoman of N75m and then posted her nude photos on Facebook.
The business woman was identified as  US based business woman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Akinwole

It can be recalled that Mrs Akinwole was  made to look as if she had taken her own life after her  nude pictures were released online and a story was made  that she committed suicide by jumping into the Third Mainland Bridge Lagoon in an  attempt to blackmail her.
Following her report in 2017, the police arrested  two suspects  one Awojomi Ganiu aka Alfa Oris, 51, and Otunba Paul Adesanya 54.

Narrating how she fell victim to the fraudster, Akinwole said: “ I am a business woman and I live in Texas, United States of America. Sherrifat lives in the USA and we were close friends when this issue started and she was the person who linked me to the Alfa(Ganiu) in Nigeria, but I wasn’t talking to the Alfa.  She then traveled to London, England in March 2017 to meet Otunba Adesanya, who she had an affair with and she called  and said that the Alfa told her that my death was imminent, except I perform some prayers.  ‘’While she was saying this, Otunba Adesanya, came in and told me that he knows the Alfa very well and that I should obey  him because he is very powerful and well known in Nigeria.  Otunba Adesanya,  also told me that he had several businesses in Nigeria including petrol filling stations in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.  Alfa Awojobi, was demanding N154,000 for the prayers and I told Sherifat and Otunba that I didn’t have such money and Otunba Adesanya offered to pay N100,000 for me, while  he asked me to pay the balance.’’

Continuing, she said:’’ I did what they said and Alfa started praying for me.  He did that until April, 2018, and he insisted that I must come to Nigeria for the final prayers.  I was really scared then and I didn’t want to die the way my younger sister died. I returned to  Nigeria and went straight to Alfa at Ijebu-Ode.  He asked me to take my bath before entering his house which I did and by midnight, he brought four men and they started praying for me.  Alfa then said he had seen more visions about  my husband and children and I ended up spending N1.5million at the Alfa’s place before  returning to America.  Otunba Adesanya,  then came in and told me that he wanted to invest my money in oil business using his petrol filling stations.  He took me round some filling stations in Ijebu-Ode and he was greeted as the owner.  He asked me to invest a huge amount of money and promised that after one month, I will get back my 50 percent of my investment as profit, and I trusted him.

‘’ I borrowed N30 million and the person who loaned  me the money paid it into his account.  One month after I gave him the money, I called and started asking about the business;  Otunba Adesanya, got angry and paid back the money into my  account. I was shocked and this made me believe and trust Otunba Adesanya, to be a kind of genuine businessman. Then, I pleaded and asked him to continue with the business and then he asked me to change the money into dollar which I did and I took the money to him.  Two months after then, when I tried to get back my money, he told me that the money I gave to him to invest into the business wasn’t enough and he needed money and I went on scouting for more money.  I continued to give him money until it reached a total of N75million. He also asked me to pay the sum of N31million through the Alfa’s account.

‘’ But on December 2017,  one of his boys called me on the telephone and told me that  I had been defrauded, then I arrested him with some police and  military men and they couldn’t recover my money. I also got him arrested with policemen in Osun and Ondo states, yet,  he went off the hook. Then, I brought in  operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to arrest him, and they recovered  21,000 nude photos and videos of various Nigerian women.  He claimed he was very sick and the EFCC granted him bail, but after his release he went  on the internet and published photoshop nude photos of myself and him, claiming that he had sexual relationship with me, which was a lie.   He was also the person who circulated the story that I had jumped into the Third Mainland Bridge Lagoon, over infidelity.  The EFCC  tried to caution him but he wouldn’t listen  because he wanted to blackmail me into stopping my case.  I was given the advice to go to the IGP IRT and report my case and they trailed and arrested the Alfa as well as Otunba Adesanya”.

Mariam K. Chamberlain$100,000 Award :CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:

ICRW is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Mariam K. Chamberlain Award, which honors the legacy of Dr. Mariam K. Chamberlain, a visionary who founded Re:Gender – formerly the National Council for Research on Women – in 1981.

Apply at http://www.wufoo.com/?t=o2j5o6

  • Award Background

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is a global research institute with offices located in Washington, D.C.; New Delhi, India; Nairobi, Kenya; and Kampala, Uganda. Our research evidence identifies women’s contributions as well as the obstacles that prevent them from being economically strong and able to fully participate in society. ICRW translates these insights into a path of action that honors women’s human rights, ensures gender equality and creates the conditions in which all women can thrive.

ICRW comprises social scientists, economists, public health specialists and demographers, all of whom are experts in gender. We are thought leaders driven by a passion to alleviate poverty and rectify injustice in the world. And we believe that women and girls – in collaboration with men and boys – are essential to the solutions. We know that when their quality of life improves, families are healthier and economies are stronger

In September 2016, ICRW merged with Re:Gender (formerly the National Council for Research on Women or NCRW) in order to pursue a global research and advocacy agenda focused on advancing women’s empowerment and achieving gender equality. ICRW is honored to carry forward the Re:Gender legacy, including its annual Mariam K. Chamberlain Dissertation Award, which pays tribute to Re:Gender's founding President, Dr. Mariam K. Chamberlain, who passed away at the age of 94 in April 2013. She was a true visionary whose contributions to the feminist and social justice movements are evident across the world by generations of women.

Mariam was a key force in shaping and launching the women’s studies and academic research movements in the United States and worldwide through her work as a program officer at the Ford Foundation in the 1960s and 1970s. She provided the strategic vision, funding and support to launch university and college-based centers and freestanding policy institutes focused on women’s issues. Mariam helped build a network of dedicated and accomplished leaders committed to advancing women, especially in academia, and helped cultivate lasting institutional support for their work.

In 1981, Mariam helped found Re:Gender (then NCRW) to further support the movement she helped to create. Under her leadership, Re:Gender increased and promoted research on women, built alliances for synergistic work, and advanced research into policy applications. Her vision has evolved into a dynamic network of thought-leaders and change agents working to ensure more fully informed debates, policies and practices, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and equitable world for women and girls, their families and their communities.

How fraudsters clone website to divert German 14.7 million euros meant for purchase of Covid-19 PPE

Cybercrime Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, INTERPOL, National Central Bureau, Abuja has arrested two (2) suspects for their complicity in a major multi-million Euro scam touching on procurement of COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Force Public Relations officer DCP  Frank Mba gave the names of the suspects as , Babatunde Adesanya also known as  Teddy, 50years old Master degree holder in Cell Biology and Akinpelu Hassan Abass, 41years old, who is also the Managing Director of  Musterpoint Investment Nig. Ltd.

DCP Mba added that the suspects are members of a sophisticated transnational criminal network which specialises in cloning the corporate website of ILBN Holdings BV, Holland to transact with and defraud one Freiherr Fredrick Von Hahn, a representative of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

"The arrest of the suspects was sequel to a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) received by the Bureau from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice conveying a request from the German Government for investigations into a fraudulent transaction on the procurement of COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment linked to a Nigerian-based Bank Account.

Discrete investigations by INTERPOL Nigeria revealed that the suspects and their Holland-based cohorts, one Eduardus Boomstra and Geradius Maulder specialized in identity theft, cyber-stalking, cloning of corporate websites amongst other cyber mischiefs to defraud unsuspecting members of the public across the world. In this instance, the suspects fraudulently obtained from Mr Freiherr Fredrick Von Hahn the sum of 1.5m Euro and another 880,000 Euro as advanced payment for the supply of COVID-19 PPEs valued at 14.7million Euros. Disturbed by the non-arrival of the PPEs, Mr Freiherr Fredrick Von Hahn eventually visited the corporate office of ILBN Holdings BV in Holland to inquire reasons for the delay in supplying the items only to find out that the company never did business with him and that the transaction was a scam. The fraudsters merely cloned the company’s website and falsely presented themselves as representatives of the company before subsequently executing the fraudulent transaction. Consequently, he reported the case of fraud to the Police in Holland and this led to the arrest of Eduardus Boomstra and Geradius Maulder in Holland and investigations extended to Nigeria"

Investigation by INTERPOL Nigeria further revealed that Babatunde Adesanya received 498,000 Euro from Eduardus Boomstra and Geradius Maulder through his Citibank London account and transferred same to an account number domiciled with a Lagos branch of a leading commercial bank in Nigeria belonging to Musterpoint Investment Nig. Ltd.

While commending the Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, CP Garba Baba Umar and operatives of INTERPOL Nigeria, Cybercrime Unit for a job well done, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M Muhammed Adamu,  assures members of the public and the international community of the commitment of the Force to tackling cybercrimes and other transnational crimes. He reiterates that there will be no hiding place for internet fraudsters in the country.

Meanwhile, the suspects will be arraigned before a competent court.

DSS denies Arresting Tiwa Salvage, Don Jazzy

News making the rounds on the alleged arrest  of Nigerian music producer, Michael Ajereh widely known as Don Jazzy, and Tiwatope Savage popularly known as Tiwa Savage, by the Department of State Service  for questioning over alleged political utterances against the administration of President Muhamamdu Buhari has been denied by the secret police.

Peter Afunanya spokesperson for DSS when contacted denied the duo were arrested.

He said " We did not invite any musician to our office "

Sahara Reporters an online news portal had reported that the duo were arrested. The report read " recent months, following a sharp rise in sexual assault cases across Nigeria especially against women, Tiwa Savage began a movement known as “WeAreTired” in protest of the situation.

Through the movement, the musician called on Buhari's administration to take action to stem the tide of rape in the country.

According to findings by SaharaRepoters, this in addition to several posts on social media calling on the government to live up to its responsibilities to Nigerians earned Tiwa Savage an invitation by the DSS.

Together with Don Jazzy, Savage was invited to the DSS office in Lagos two weeks ago during which they were warned to be careful with their posts on the social media.

Shortly after that episode, the two celebrities together with colleagues Yemi Alade and Waje were summoned by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, who while sharing efforts they were making to tackle rape and other problems in the state and country, warned the musicians to steer clear of political comments in order not to incur the wrath of the President Buhari administration.

A member of Tiwa Savage's management team, who confirmed the development to SaharaRepoters, said that the celebrated female artiste will not stop speaking for Nigerians regardless of any move by governnent.

But as if to confirm the subtle warning from governnent, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage both appear to have toned down their social media posts in recent days after the meeting with the DSS and police in Lagos.

For example, Don Jazzy, who is known to actively engage his numerous followers on social media, last posted anything on Twitter more than 22 hours while Tiwa never continued with her hashtag after the meeting with DSS Director at their Shangisha, Lagos office.
