Sylvester died of Pneumonia not bullying -----Police

---  warns against inciting comments,protests

Lagos State police command boss Mr. Hakeem Odumosu has  maintained that  the command on had concluded investigation on the death of the 12 -year old Junior Secondary School 2 student and found the three House masters and five students earlier arrested in connection with his death, not culpable.

Addressing journalists at the Lagos State Command conference Hall , on the update of the investigation into the demise of Sylvester, he recalled that a formal complaint was received on December 2,2021 via a petition by V. o Grant & Co, and signed by A.E Afole et Al, dated December 1,2021,.
He explained that ' The DPO Maroko was immediately directed to carry out preliminary investigation into the incident , notwithstanding that the incident was not reported at any police station.
Same day the petition was dreceived, DPO Maroko commenced preliminary investigation by visiting Dowen College on a fact-finding- mission. However, due to the seriousness of the incident and the police  need to carry out diligent investigations. The State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, was directed by me to take over in estivation of the case with immediate effect.
In compliance with this directive, the SCID Panti, took over the case on December 10,2021 and continued investigation in Ernest..in the course of investigation, eight suspects were arrested. They included three house masters of the college and five  students who were said to have been mentioned by the deceased before his death.
The suspects who were student are: Ansel Temile,14; Michael Kashamu, 15; Kenneth Inyang , 15; Favour Benjamin,16 and Edward Begue,16.
While the house masters are: Valentine Igbokwe, 45; Ahmed Bariyu,52 and Adesaya Olusegun,42.
A remand warrant dated December 7,2021, was obtained at the Yaba Magistrate Court to enable the police detain the suspects for 21 days , in the first instance while investigation continued
On December 9,2021, all  the parties  , including the deceased's family, the school management and  witnesses , were interviewed by me at the Command headquarters, Ikeja.
During the open interview, it was unanimously agreed that another autopsy should be carried out where pathologists from all parties will be present. Investigation was extended to Delta State and Abuja.
I will like to state here that investigation revealed that same case was reported at the Area Command, Warri, Delta State, on December 1,2021. It has also be established that a postmortem examination was initially carried out on December 2,2022, by a consultant pathologist, Dr Clement Vhriterhire, of the Central Hospital, Warri Delta.
The result of the first autopsy dated December 10,2022, attributed cause of death to acute lungs injury, due to chemical intoxication In a background of blunt force trauma.
However,  Toxicology screening was recommended and also carried out . Whole waiting for the result of Toxicology, another autopsy was ordered by the Corona Magistrate in Lagos because of the status of jurisdiction.
The corpse was therefore moved with armed police escort from Delta State to Lagos State by TOS funeral and the autopsy conducted at the expense of the Lagos State Government.
The second autopsy was Carrie four at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on December 14,2021, in the presence of represe tatives of all the parties involved in the case. It was carried out by Dr. S.S Soyemi, the Consultant Pathologist an Chief Examiner , Department of Pathology and Forensic Sciences, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja.
The autopsy was witnessed by the following persons: Dr. Uwon Eze, Consultant Pathologist , from UCH, repressing Timiles family; Dr. Badmus Kabiru, Consultant Pathologist from LUTH represented Dowen College; Dr. Nigwe Chikodili Isabila, Consultant Pathologist from Military Hospital , Yaba, represrndes Edward Brown, student of Dowen College; Dr Clement Vhriterhire, Consultant Pathologist who performed the first autopsy, represented family of th deceased; Dr. Musa Stephen Itopa, Consultant Pathologist, from UBTH, represented Kashamu Michael, student of Dowen College; Dr. F. E Emiogun, Consultant apathologist in LASUTH; Dr. O.O Kilauvie- Emegbo, Consultant Pathologist, LASUTh; Dr O.O Onayemi, Senior Registra in LASUTH; Dr N. Salisu, Senior Registra in autopsy posting in LASUTECH, Dr. AC China, Registra from ABU, from autopsy posting in LASUTH; Dr. F. Emetomah,Registra, CSP Radaw Oseni, from the Homicide section, represented. The Nigeria Police Force , Lagos State Command; DSP Olusegun Bamidele also fromHomicide section, represnrtdd the Nigeria Police Force , LAGOS state command, Sergeant Shola Adeniyi, Homicide section also represented the Lagos State Police Command.
Before the expiration of 21-days remand order, families of the students applied for their bail at Magistrate Court 1, Yaba. The application was approved, hence the students who were earlier remanded at Boys Home, Oregon, were granted bail.
The House Masters were also granted bail after the expiration of the 21 days remand order the result of second autopsy carried out in Lagos which was released on December 21,2021, attributed the cause of death to septicaemia , lobar pneumonia  with acute pyelonephritis and phyomyositis of the right angle.
On December 30,2021, the Toxicology Screening result of the first autopsy carried in Warri was released. The result issued and signed by Dr. Clement Vhriterhire, same Doctor who carried out eh initial autopsy, attributed cause of death to acute bacteria  pheumonia  due to severe sepsis.
At the end of diligent investigation carried out so far, there is no evidence to establish a case of torture , bullying and forceful application of poisonous substance against the suspects. All the suspects denied the allegations of torture, bullying and administering of poisonous Sundance to the deceased. Allegation that the deceased was being forced to join a cult group was also not established , as other students interviewed denied this.
The final result of the postmortem and Toxicology examination conducted both at Warri and Lagos, agreed that the deceased died a natural death.

Our findings and and the second autopsy include marked parlour of organs, pneumonia(infection of the lungs), infection of the liver and kidney as well as the heart. These infections emanated from the ankle infection described earlier in the report.
Microscopic section also confirmed this findings: death was caused by septicaemia, following infections of the lungs and kidneys arising from the ankle wound.
No evidence of blunt false trauma in his body . The findings in the osephaagus and stomach are not compatible with chemical intoxication. Death in this case is natural.
Despite these and the following legal proceedings, the case file was duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP for legal advice.
Legal advice however indicated that there is no prima facie case of murder, involuntary manslaughter and/or malicious administering of poison with intent of harm against he students and house masters. Hence they can not be prosecuted. They were all released on bail.
Inspite of the transparent investigation carried out by the Police and the non establishment of prima facie case against the suspects, some members of the Ijaw Youths Council, Lagos, led by Comrade Henry Oyobolo, protested in from of DOWEN college for over two hours on January 6,2022. The protesters
, including masquerades carried placards and we're drumming, thereby cause panic and apprehension. Much as we commiserate with the bereaved family on the  death of their lovely and promising child, it is advised that the protesters and other individuals or groups, who are still aggrieved, should go to the law court to seek redress, instead of taking laws into their own hands.
This, members of the public who may have may misgivings about the outcome of Police investigation, medical enquiry and Leah advice with this case are advised to follow due process in law , rather than resorting to self help. The Police will not told their hands and allow any act of omission that could the threathen the peace being enjoyed in the state".

Where is 2 year old Daniel?

Family members of a 2 years
old boy  Daniel Akorode Mudashiru, who has been missing since November 28,2021, have cried to the Inspector-General of Police Mr. Usman Akali Baba,to prevail on all police formations across the country to help  find their child.
The family also appealed to religious organizations, families and non-governmental-organisations to assist them in finding their kid.
Mother of the child, Mercy, who was ,in tears said the family did not celebrate  Christmas and New year
The female auto mechanic, who was weeping intermittently as she narrated the family ordeals, said:" My son Daniel, was stolen and not missing. There is a child theft cartel in Ajegungle in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Apapa, Lagos, where we live. Many kids have been stolen and their whereabouts still remain mystery. It is monthly occurance and the police are yet to bust the syndicate. As I am crying today, so many families are also weeping , mourning and gnashing their teeth over similar fate of stolen children. The Police should do something drastic to bust the criminal gang that steal little children in Ajegungle.
" It was not as if I was careless. My son was playing with his friends in our compound,so I was not really worried, because he was safe hand. After sometime, Daniel came home; took his meal and went back to join his playmates. At about 6pm, I felt that it was getting late,so I went outside to pick my son,but there was no one outside. I went from house to house in search of my son,but the kids told me that they left him outside. I became apprehensive and raised the alarm.
" A search party was conducted, but there was no success and we ran to the police station where we were told to wait for 24 hours. After 24 hours,we went back to Ajeromi police station where the case was reported, but there is no good response from the police. Since that fateful Sunday, my family has been in mourning. It is better to know that your child is dead than to be subjected to the mental and psychological torture of wondering what was happening to him or what would have happened to him.I don't wish my enemy what is happening to me. I don't know who is holding my child, but I am  begging you in the name of God to bring back Daniel. If you need money, please, we will raise it and give to you. Think of God and your children's future and give me back my child.
" I am begging our IGP, Mr. Akali to use his good office and prevail on police formations across the country to help me search for my son Daniel. I am also appealing to other security agencies to wade into the matter. My appeals also go to Nigerians and non-governmental-organisations, to assist me in finding the child. My life has crashed.I am injured and devastated. Please, contact us with 07032698251 or the nearest Police Station.

The law of Karma did not waste time in catching up with one Mohammed Ahmed  a 30-year-old man who bolted with his employer's money and squandered it on  friends he was having fun with in a hotel.
As the law of Karma had it, Ahmed met his untimely death in the hands of one of his female friends identifed as Omowumi Oyapitan a 32 year old woman  who allegedly  stabbed him in the neck with a broken bottle.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State police public relations officer said the deceased, Ahmed, allegedly stole N600,000 from his employers, Hayorlak Hotel in Atan-Otta, where he worked as a bartender.

On arrival at the guest inn on Monday, December 27, 2021, he lodged and feasted his friends he had lodged.

However, he fell out with one of the said friends, who he accused of stealing his money, a development that led to a hot exchange of words.

In the course of the argument, the suspect Omawumi took side with the man Ahmed accused of stealing his money and  her  interference  infuriated Ahmed to the point of giving the lady a fist  blow in the mouth.

Ahmed, it was gathered, went for a bottle and broke it but the suspect allegedly picked part of the broken bottle and stabbed Mohammed in the neck.

It was gathered that the  hotel management made a distress call to the police at Onipanu Division in Otta, following which the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Bamidele Job, arrived the hotel with his men but met Ahmed  by the fence of Fowobi Filling Station on Idiroko Road in a pool of his own blood, having strayed out of the hotel.

According the police ,  the victim was rushed to the State Hospital, Otta, where he was certified dead.  The  suspect was  transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the state police command.
