Police
operatives in Ogun State have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Azeez
Khadijat, in connection with the suspected theft and attempted
concealment of a Suzuki minibus, popularly known as “Korope.”
The
arrest was made on Sunday, April 19, 2026, by detectives attached to
the Omu-Ijebu Divisional Headquarters following intelligence reports of
suspicious activity in a bush along Ikhasi Road, Kajola area via
Omu-Ijebu.
According to the Ogun State Police
Command, officers received information that a group of three men and a
woman were illegally repainting a minibus without a registration number.
The vehicle, originally believed to be yellow, was being repainted
white and blue in what authorities suspect was an attempt to disguise
its identity.
Police moved swiftly to the scene,
prompting the suspects to flee in different directions. Khadijat was
apprehended inside the abandoned vehicle, while the other suspects
escaped.
The minibus was recovered and taken into
police custody. Investigators later confirmed that it bore a Lagos State
registration number. Items recovered at the scene included three mobile
phones, a power bank, a paint can, sandpaper, and a Type-C charging
cord, believed to belong to the fleeing suspects.
Preliminary
findings suggest the vehicle may have been used for criminal activities
in Lagos State, leading the suspects to attempt to alter its appearance
to evade detection.
Police authorities say efforts
are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects. The case has been
transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in
Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The
Commissioner of Police in Ogun State commended the оперативes for their
swift response and assured residents that all accomplices involved in
the crime would be brought to justice.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
