Ogun Police Warn Against Unlawful Protests as Security Operation Yields Mass Arrests in Sagamu

The Ogun State Police Command has issued a strong warning against unlawful assemblies and violent protests in Sagamu, following a series of security operations that led to the arrest of over 150 suspects.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Command remains committed to maintaining law and order through its ongoing initiative, “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.”

According to the police, the warning comes in response to a disturbance on April 7, 2026, when a group of commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as okada operators, blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, disrupting traffic and public movement. The situation escalated as the protesters reportedly moved to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and TRACE Office in the Sotubo area, and later disrupted activities at the Sotubo Health Centre.

Police operatives were deployed to disperse the crowd, and subsequent intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of 10 key suspects linked to the incident. Authorities confirmed that the suspects have been charged in court.

Building on this, a joint security raid conducted in the early hours of April 13 targeted identified criminal hotspots across Sagamu. The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, resulted in the arrest of 146 additional suspects.

Police authorities said all arrested individuals are currently undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated that the Command would not tolerate any actions capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must be carried out within the confines of the law.

He also assured residents that security agencies are fully prepared to deal decisively with criminal activities, warning that there would be no safe haven for individuals or groups intent on causing unrest.

The police command commended the support of the Sagamu Local Government and traditional rulers in the area, noting that their cooperation has been instrumental in the successes recorded so far.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the gains of the operation through intelligence-driven policing and continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
