The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on violent crime across the country, recording major breakthroughs in a series of intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of 50 suspects and the recovery of illegal weapons.
The Force Public Relations Officer DCP Okon Placid while speaking to journalists on Monday said the
operations, conducted between January and April 2026, targeted criminal networks involved in arms trafficking, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other related offences. Authorities said the coordinated efforts were driven by actionable intelligence and aimed at dismantling organized crime groups operating across multiple states.
Among the notable achievements was the arrest of suspects linked to the unlawful possession of firearms, including one connected to the recovery of an FNC rifle. Investigations have since uncovered a broader arms supply network, with efforts ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices and recover additional weapons.
In Benue State, operatives dismantled a syndicate notorious for mounting illegal roadblocks while impersonating law enforcement officers to rob unsuspecting members of the public. Recovered items included firearms, ammunition, and police uniforms used in carrying out their activities.
Similarly, in the Federal Capital Territory, a criminal group involved in abduction, “one chance” extortion, and robbery was apprehended. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include vehicles, mobile devices, and cash believed to be proceeds of crime, while investigations continue to identify other members of the network.
In Taraba State, suspects linked to the killing of police officers in Donga Local Government Area were arrested, with preliminary findings indicating their involvement in multiple violent incidents across the region.
A major breakthrough was also recorded in a coordinated operation across Kwara State and Kogi State, where 33 suspected members of a notorious criminal network were apprehended. The group is believed to be involved in terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, and arms trafficking, with high-grade firearms, ammunition, and communication equipment recovered.
Authorities confirmed that several suspects have made useful confessions, aiding ongoing investigations. All suspects currently in custody are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts continue to track down others still at large.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to strengthening intelligence gathering, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring the safety and security of citizens nationwide. Members of the public have also been urged to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
