Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos State have uncovered and dismantled a suspected baby factory in Badagry, rescuing 28 victims and arresting two suspects linked to the illegal operation.
The raid, carried out after three weeks of surveillance, took place between April 15 and 16, 2026, at Okuju, Ilado area of Olorunda in Badagry. According to the Lagos State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, the operation was intelligence-driven and targeted a facility allegedly used to exploit pregnant women and traffic newborn babies.
Among those rescued were 17 heavily pregnant women, 10 children—including infants—and one adult male. Authorities say the victims were lured through a Facebook account that promised financial rewards in exchange for giving up their babies after delivery. The infants were reportedly sold for sums ranging between ₦500,000 and ₦1,000,000.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were kept in poor and unsafe conditions. One of the pregnant women reportedly lost her pregnancy due to the unhealthy environment at the facility.
Items recovered from the scene included mobile phones, cooking equipment, gas cylinders, mats, a generator, and other household items believed to support the illegal operation.
The NSCDC condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and a reflection of growing criminal exploitation driven by financial desperation. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to using intelligence and surveillance to combat human trafficking and related crimes.
Both the suspects and rescued victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation, rehabilitation, and possible prosecution.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to uncover the wider network behind the operation and ensure all those involved are brought to
