Interpol arrests forex dealer for 492,750,000 fraud

One Mr. Akinola Bayo

Michael has been left stranded and defrauded after he sought to obtain foreign exchange (forex) for the purpose of purchasing a machine from the Netherlands.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Mr. Michael sent a substantial sum of Four Hundred and Ninety Two

Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N492,750,000)only to

the bank account of one Mr. Mohammed Sulaiman. However, instead of

facilitating the forex transaction as agreed, Mr. Sulaiman transferred the

funds to another individual, Mr. Mohammed Hassan Barau.

Mr. Hassan Barau, who resides in the United Arab Emirates,

subsequently sent 513,000 Euros to Mr. Michael from Belgium,

supposedly for the forex transaction. However, this transaction was

flagged as fraudulent, leading Mr. Michael to return the funds to the

sender. Realizing that he had been a victim of fraud, Mr. Michael made

multiple attempts to recover his money but was unsuccessful.

The case took a significant turn when it was assigned to INTERPOL

which launched an investigation into the matter. Recognizing the severity

of the fraud and its international dimension, INTERPOL placed the prime

suspect, Mr. Mohammed Hassan Barau, on a red alert list, thereby

facilitating international cooperation in tracking and apprehending the

suspect.

We are pleased to inform you that Mr. MohammedHassan Barau was

arrested by INTERPOL Abu Dhabi and subsequently extradited to Nigeria

on 27th September 2023. His extradition marks a crucial milestone in

the pursuit of justice for Mr. Akinola Bayo Michael. The successful extradition of Mr. Mohammed Hassan Barau demonstrates the

commitment of law enforcement agencies, both within and outside

Nigeria, to ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities, particularly

those with international ramifications, are held accountable for their

actions.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance and due diligence in

financial transactions, especially in the era of increasingly sophisticated

fraud schemes. We urge individuals and businesses to exercise caution

and verify the legitimacy of financial transactions to prevent falling

victim to fraud.

Disgraced Egbetokun in 2019, Return As a Hero in 2023 inaugurating projects in Lagos police command

A once disgraced  Mr Kayode Egbetokun in 2019 had turned a hero inaugurating projects in Lagos police command he was chased out from.
Acting IGP Egbetokun would no doubt feel joyous and overwhelmed with gratitude to God at the turn of events in his life especially yesterday when he was welcomed  into the Lagos state command to launch  newly built hospital at the PMF 22 and  the Lagos State Police Command Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
It can be recalled how the present acting IGP Egbetokun who was then a Commissioner of police had shown up in Lagos command after her was posted to take over the leadership of the command from then CP imohimi Egdal. However, instead of the handover ceremony to commenced, a mild drama ensued when then then CP Imohimi Egdal voiced out to the press that ther was no change of baton. Acting IGP Egbetokun then a  CP had to leave the Lagos state command in shock and shame but he left gallantly. He was pitied , little did anyone knew that he will clinch  the number one  police position in 2023. Acting IGP Egbetokun's  story i inspires hope for all and sundry.

Retired IGPs, CPs attend retreat in Ibadan to brainstorm on better policing in Nigeria.

Retired Inspectors General of Police ( IGP) as well as retired commissioners of police led by the Police Service Commission 's chairman ex IGP Dr. Solomon Arase today in Ibadan attended a retreat for better policing and the role of ex police chiefs in addressing security challenges in Nigeria.
The retreat taking place at the Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA Ibadan had the Chairman of the Committee of Retired Inspectors General of Police, Alhaji Aliyu Atta, Ogbonnaya Onovo, Hafix Ringim, Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman Police Service Commission and Ibrahim Kpotun Idris , Dr. Mike Okiro, Sunday Ehindero, and the acting Inspector General of Police, Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun present at the opening ceremony of the event. Other police chiefs present at the retreat include former Lagos state commissioner of police and special adviser on security to the Oyo state government retired CP Owoseni Fatia among others.
Present to deliver lectures at the retreat with the theme; 'Intervention Of Ex-Inspectors General of Police For Strategic Contribution To Effective Policing In Nigeria" are lecturers from the Institute For  Peace, Security  and Humanitarian  Studies  University of Ibadan led by the Head of the Institute ,Associate Professor Ruth Ochanya  Adio Moses and the Director of Multidisciplinary Studies ,  Prof Olawale Albert.

Topical papers presented at the retreat include: Current State of Police Preparedness; Issues, Challenges and Prospects and Strategic actions and steps towards restoring NPF's primacy in internal security architecture of Nigeria among others

It was gathered that there will also be a discussion and experience-sharing session on the imperativeness of employing the experiential knowledge of the retired IGPs in the effective management of internal security in Nigeria.

Alhaji Aliyu Attah GCON, retired Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Committee had said the retreat would afford the ex-IGPs the opportunity to examine and proffer solutions using their varied experiences while in service. He said “Once a policeman always a policeman. We want to wake the curiosity about the service itself among the populace, we want to wake it up again because it appears the profession of the police has been bulkanized and taken over by other organizations like the army, SSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Road safety and what have you, so we want to reawaken Nigerians for the need for effective and efficient police force that can deliver. We the retired IGPs we are here to meet with the incumbent IGP tell him the pitfalls, where we faltered and where we gained grounds so we can have a better police force. Nigeria Police Force has been underfunded, under-equipped understaffed, under everything. So that when we want us to perform you give us what we need to perform with. Why do our police officers go out on peace keeping mission in other countries and they are doffed the best and when they come back people look at them with disdain. We must have to evolve culture of lawfulness, most Nigerians are law breakers, culture of lawfulness that is what we need so that we can live in a peaceful country.”

Speaking at the retreat, retired IGP Ogbonaya Onovo said “This conference is first of its kind and plan to be having it once in every three months, in other to know what is going on in the Force and suggest to the government and the police itself so that we can have advanced police that the country deserves. With this kind of conference with the serving IGP, he will be able to know what the public wants of the police and how to go by it.Ours is to recommend and watch its implementation.
Sunday Ehinderor another ex-IGP said " Today we interacted with the IGP so that he may learn from us how we policed the country during our time.We shared our experience and our expectations from him and the expectation from members of the public and we all agreed that the time has come that the retired IGPs will not be docile, its time to contribute to the good governance of the country. There are many challenges the police is facing, don’t forget that crime is dynamic. In Our days what we faced was armed robbery but today, we have banditry, cyber crime, kidnapping for ransom, terrorism and sit at home in some places; crime will always occur but it is the ability of the police to thrive in the midst of chaos, that is the hallmark of policing. And we are sure the present IGP is well equipped for these challenges.

"Special Intervention Squad will be created in all the states to boost security --- Egbetokun

---- As  He Urges  Stakeholders to Avoid Spreading Police Bad Conducts On Social Media.

The acting  Inspector General of Police IGP' Kayode Egbetokun has revealed that the  Nigeria Police Force will create  Special Intervention Squad in order to further boost the security in all the states in the country .
Acting IGP Egbetokun stated that the Special Intervention Squad will be drawn from the Police Mobile Force to further strengthen security in all the state.
Acting IGP Egbetokun made this  known  while responding to questions and comments during an interactive session with  stakeholders at the Oyo state police command on Tuesday where he was paying an official visit to the  command.
Present at the interactive session were leaders and members  of the Police Community Relations Committee PCRC ,  leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state , the Igbos, Arewa  communities, Ibadan indigents , the Mogajis of Ibadan, other  traditional rulers ,  business men and women, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of south west, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 11, Commissioner of Police in Oyo state  among  other stakeholders in the state.

Before taking questions and comments from the stakeholders, Mr. Egbetokun had  appreciated the stakeholders  for cooperating with the Oyo state police command in fighting crime and promoting security in the state as he harped on the need for constant dialogue , interfacing between the public and the police in the state.
Acting IGP Egbetokun further urged the stakeholders to avoid spreading police bad conducts on the social media but instead bring such conducts to the commissioners of police, senior police officers'  attention where such conducts will be addressed and the erring personnel will be brought to book.
He said " I would like to thank and appreciate you for the support to the police command. I want to implore you that the police are here to serve you.  I was appointed less than two months ago but we have put a lot of measures in place  to improve our security. I want to thank you for the support , cooperation you have been giving to the police in Oyo state . Police are here to serve you. You have a CP who has been posted here to continue the good work of his predecessor and he operates an open door policy. Feel free to go to him him when you have complaints. Don't go to social media, go to the police when one of our men misbehaves. You can call the Commissioner of police and report to him . He will give you his phone number and other senior police officers phone numbers to call for them to attend to your issues. We are here to address your complaints . Do not take us to the social media. There is alot of falsehood being propagated on social media. The PRO and other senior police officers are here and they will take it up and ensure justice is done ".
Speaking on his commitment  to ensuring a more secured country, Acting IGP Egbetokun stated that through his leadership, Nigeria Police Force will become more dynamic and socially acceptable to members of the public in  order to boost the relationship between public and the police  in tackling all forms of criminality.
He said " We have a new police administration and our mission is to emplace a professionally competent , value driven, rule of law compliant and people friendly police force. We want to achieve a police force that will be able to respond appropriately and adequately to the dynamics of crime and criminality in the society. Other policing is community based , it is also technology driven , intelligence led . We are going to focus on the community. You all know that we are implementing community policing strategy in all the federation. Police officers have been trained in community policing but we are shifting our new approach to community policing which is about policing diverse societies, communities . That means that we are taking cognizance of certain specularity  in these communities. For example, in Oyo state, we have the Amotekun being run by the state government and they are helping us to combat crime. The overall intention is to reduce crime in the society and so that all the citizens will go to their homes after a  hard day's job to sleep with their two  eyes closed. The police cannot do it all alone. The police need your cooperation and support. We are going to do this job together" .

Speaking further on the new  approach the   police  administration is undertaking, Acting IGP Egbetokun said " We are looking at our approach to community policing and making sure that we apply the best methods to solve the problems of crime in each of the community. We are reviewing the engagement of the Special Constabulary. If they are not giving us results, we are going to review it. We cannot continue to do the same thing every time and expect to get different results. We  will try  different approaches and our result is to ensure security in our communities. By the time we are able to provide general security, where the communities are safe, that's our target . Once we are able to achieve that, individuals that are requesting for personal special protection will find it unnecessary. We are reviewing our strategies regularly to deliver on our mandate to police this country. Our doors are opened for suggestions and ideas that will help us with the security of the country ".
The stakeholders present at the event expressed their appreciations to the acting IGP Egbetokun for finding out time from his busy schedule to listen to them as they revealed  they will continue to support the police in the state".
The Mogajis of Ibadanland however appealed to the acting IGP Egbetokun to create Area commands in the border communities in the state as well as establishing additional Mobile Police  Squadron in the state as the two Mobile Police Force squadrons in the state are inadequate.
Responding to the demand, the acting IGP Egbetokun stated that "We have a plan to create from the Police Mobile Force, a squadron known as the Special Intervention Squad. We are going to have the Special Intervention Squad all over the states of the federation. We are drawing the men that will make up the squad from the present Police Mobile Force and we will give them additional training that will be special. Kit them specially, equip them specially. The traditional role of the Mobile Police Force and I am sure the Oyo state will get one. I want to appeal to all the communities in the state that the love they have shown to me today, they should show to one another and be their brothers keepers. They should continue to cooperate with the police as criminals are not happy when the community members are cooperating with the police".
