The Zone 2 Police Command has arrested a Canada-based Nigerian, identified as Olushola Ajayi Joshua, in connection with a burglary and stealing case involving properties worth more than ₦150 million.
The arrest was announced by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, who described the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command's efforts to combat crime and bring offenders to justice.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly fled Nigeria for Canada shortly after the burglary case was reported in July 2025. Detectives attached to the Zone 2 Criminal Investigation Department subsequently launched an intensive investigation, working closely with the Nigeria Police Force INTERPOL Unit to track the suspect's movements.
Police sources revealed that through international collaboration, the suspect's passport was flagged, enabling law enforcement authorities to monitor his travel activities. The operation paid off when Olushola arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where he was apprehended by security operatives upon his return to the country.
Speaking on the development, AIG Jimoh commended the professionalism and dedication of the investigators involved in the case, noting that the arrest underscores the growing effectiveness of cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL in tackling transnational crimes.
"This arrest is a clear demonstration that criminal elements cannot evade justice by fleeing the country. The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with international partners, remains committed to ensuring that offenders are tracked and brought to account wherever they may be," the AIG stated.
He further assured members of the public that the Zone 2 Command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and investigative capabilities to combat criminal activities across its area of responsibility.
The police authorities disclosed that investigations into the matter are ongoing, while the suspect is expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Zone 2 Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining law and order, and ensuring that justice is served in all criminal cases.
