An atmosphere of remembrance, gratitude, and celebration filled the Fitjoy Event Centre in Agege, Lagos, on Saturday as Rotarian Olalere Olabiran hosted a well-attended ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the passing of his father, Alhaji Ibrahim Akanni Olabiran.
The event attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries, Rotarians, family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers from across the country, all united in honouring the memory of a man widely respected for his integrity, humility, and commitment to community service. Among those present were members of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate, whose attendance further underscored the esteem in which both the late Alhaji Olabiran and his son are held.
Addressing guests at the ceremony, Rotarian Olalere Olabiran expressed profound appreciation for the overwhelming support shown to his family, noting that the continued presence of friends, colleagues, and associates two decades after his father's passing reflected the lasting impact he made during his lifetime.
"My father believed in honesty, hard work, discipline, and compassion for others. Twenty years after his transition, we continue to draw strength and inspiration from the values he taught us. We are grateful to everyone who has come to honour his memory," he said.
Tributes poured in from members of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Bodija Estate, who described the late Alhaji Olabiran as a man whose values and principles continue to live on through his children. The President-Elect of the club, Rotarian Anya Chukwu, who represented the President, Rotarian Victor Giwa PHF, said the qualities demonstrated by Rotarian Olabiran in both his personal and Rotary life reflected the sound upbringing he received from his late father.
"Today, we celebrate a life that continues to inspire. The dedication of Rotarian Olalere Olabiran to Service Above Self reflects the values his father instilled in him. It is heartwarming to see so many people gathered to honour such a remarkable man," he said.
Another Rotarian observed that the impressive attendance at the remembrance ceremony was a clear indication of the respect and admiration the late Pa Olabiran commanded during his lifetime.
"When people are remembered two decades after their passing with this level of affection and admiration, it speaks volumes about the life they lived. Pa Olabiran left behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and service," the Rotarian remarked.

A longtime family friend, Chief Adewale Adebiyi, recalled that the late Pa Olabiran was widely respected for his wisdom, humility, and willingness to support others whenever the need arose.
"He was a man of wisdom and humility. He touched countless lives through his generosity and willingness to help others. His legacy remains alive in the lives of those he mentored and supported," he said.
Another guest, Mrs. Funke Adetunji, praised the late Pa Olabiran's dedication to family values, education, and community development, noting that his commitment to fostering unity remains worthy of emulation.
"Pa Olabiran was known for bringing people together. He believed strongly in unity, peace, and education. Many of the principles he stood for are still relevant today, and it is encouraging to see his family keeping those ideals alive," she said.
