"Ogun Will Not Be a Safe Haven for Criminals" — CP Ojajuni as Police Arrest Two Suspects Linked to Edo Kidnapping, Murder Case

Abeokuta, June 6, 2026 — The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reiterated the Command's resolve to prevent Ogun State from becoming a hideout for criminals, following the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to a kidnapping and murder case in neighbouring Edo State.

"Ogun State will not serve as a safe haven or transit point for criminal elements. We will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, proactive security measures, and strategic collaboration with other state commands to ensure the safety and security of residents," the Commissioner stated while commending officers involved in the operation.

In a  statement issued by the the State  Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi  Babaseyi, reveals that the suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were arrested in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-driven investigations by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command.

According to the Command, the arrests followed earlier action by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, who initially apprehended the suspects. Subsequent profiling and investigations revealed that the duo are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder investigation in the Okada area of Edo State.

Police sources disclosed that preliminary intelligence indicates the suspects are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly responsible for the abduction and murder of two hostages in the Edo community.

During the investigation, operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The items have been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support further investigations.

The Ogun State Police Command noted that the alleged crimes were committed outside the state. In line with inter-state policing procedures, the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for continuation of investigations and prosecution.

CP Ojajuni praised the professionalism, diligence, and intelligence-gathering capabilities of the officers whose efforts led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of critical exhibits.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime and criminality.

The development marks another significant step in ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks operating across state boundaries and improve security across the country.
