Oyebanji is the best - APC tells Ekiti people

 The ruling All Progressive Congress APC led by  its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and 13 governors of the ruling party, stormed Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State on Tuesday, to solicit support for the ruling party and its candidate, Biodun Oyebanji ahead of Saturday gubernatorial poll.

 

Asiwaju Tinubu, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Sanwo-Olu and other APC governors and leaders appealed to the people of Ekiti State to elect Biodun Oyebanji as the next governor of Ekiti.

 

They made the appeal on Tuesday during the Ekiti State APC Governorship Mega Rally held at Ekiti Parapo Pavillon, Ado-Ekiti.

 

Speaking during the campaign, Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the people of Ekiti State to come out in large numbers and vote massively for APC and its governorship candidate during the Saturday gubernatorial poll.

 

Governor Sanwo-Olu said voting for Oyebanji is a continuation of purposeful leadership and good governance, which the people of Ekiti State have been enjoying in the last four years of Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration.

 

He said: “You must all come out in large numbers to vote for our party, APC so that you can continue to enjoy the purposeful leadership and good governance that has been known in Ekiti State, especially in the last four years of the government of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

 

“I believe that your son, BAO (Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji) will continue the good work of Governor Fayemi in Ekiti State. I want to appeal to you to go out on Saturday to vote for APC and I believe by God’s grace, our party will be victorious during the election.

 

Delayed justice impeding fight against gender based violence --- Obaseki

Gender based violence victims are not getting the desired respite. 

This has been brought to the fore by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday as he , expressed concern over the delay in the investigation and prosecution of those behind the rape and gruesome murder of late Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 Level Microbiology student of the University of Benin.

 

Late Uwaila Omozuwa was murdered in 2020 at a church in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

 

Obaseki, while declaring open the ‘End of Project Workshop’ for the National Academy for Science, noted that delayed justice for victims was impeding the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

 

The workshop has the theme, “Strengthening the Evidence and Response Pathways for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in key states in Nigeria.”

 

The governor said, “Two years after Uwaila Omozuwa was brutally murdered in Benin City, we have still not been able to prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) insisted that this case should be moved to headquarters.

 

“As we speak, the investigation is stalling. This is really, really sad and we will not be able to make progress in our fight against gender-based violence if we can’t get reports from the very highest authorities in Nigeria.”

 

Two co accused in DCP Abba Kyari's alleged illicit drug deal sentenced to two years in correction centre.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Tuesday sentenced two co-defendants in the suit filled by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police of Police Abba Kyari and six others, on alleged drug trafficking charges, to two years imprisonment.

 

The two defendants, Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenewanne, who are the 6th and 7th defendents in the case, were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, on 25th January 2022. They had earlier pleaded guilty to Count 5, 6 and 7 presented by the NDLEA.

 

The Presiding Judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, in his judgment, said having admitted to committing the offence preferred against them in counts 5, 6 and 7 by the NDLEA, Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, who are 6th and 7th defendants, “are hereby convicted accordingly.”

 

Justice Nwite then sentenced them to two years imprisonment on each of the three counts which they had admitted to.

He added that the terms will run concurrently, commencing from the day the two defendants were arrested by the anti-narcortic agency.

 

1.5 trn spent on oversea aircraft maintenance

The mandatory maintenance programme, ranging from minor to complex checks per session on an aircraft, costs about $2 million (N1.2 billion), and a cumulative burden on the industry in particular.

Besides, the misfortunes of the weak Naira-to-Dollar exchange rate, perennial lack of high-capacity Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities since the 90s has been the undoing of the country. Though the current administration promised to have one in place as part of the Aviation Roadmap initiative of 2016, the plan is yet to become a reality.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja, at the maiden edition of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) National Aviation Conference (FNAC), the Managing Director of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, said such capital flight would have been avoided if the country had MRO facilities that could adequately cater for all types of commercial airplanes.

Nigeria fuel subsidy to gulp 5trn -- World Bank

Highlights of the latest World Bank Nigeria Development Update NDU has disclosed that the country stand to lose more than five trillion Naira in revenues in 2022 from crude oil sales.

 

This was part of the revelations during the presentation of the UDU report in Abuja yesterday.

 

According to the report, “When we launched our previous Nigeria Development Update in November 2021, we estimated that Nigeria could stand to lose more than three trillion Naira in revenues in 2022 because the proceeds from crude oil sales, instead of going to the federation account, would be used to cover the rising cost of gasoline subsidies that mostly benefit the rich.”

 

Sadly, that projection turned out to be optimistic,” said Shubham Chaudhuri, World Bank Country Director for Nigeria. “With oil prices going up significantly, and with it, the price of imported gasoline, we now estimate that the foregone revenues as a result of gasoline subsidies will be closer to five trillion Naira in 2022.”

 

And that five trillion is urgently needed to cushion ordinary Nigerians from the crushing effect of double-digit increases in the cost of basic commodities, to invest in Nigeria’s children and youth, and in the infrastructure needed for private businesses small and large to flourish, grow and create jobs.”

 

The UDU report explained that the inflation in Nigeria, already one of the highest in the world before the war in Ukraine, is likely to increase further as a result of the rise in global fuel and food prices caused by the war.

Abducted Bishop Rt. Rev Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese regained his freedom unhurt alongside his wife and driver  

According to the Oyo State Police command, Rt Rev. Aderogba , Wife and Thier driver were abducted on Sunday after the victim's vehicle developed mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa,Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State enroute an isolated area along New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.

Oyo State Police command spokesperson SP Adewale Osifeso said "The massive deployment of Police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurized the abductors in freeing the victims.Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.

IGP motivates officers and men ahead of Ekiti State Gubernatorial election.

 

In a bid to have a well secured state before, during and after the forth coming election in Ekiti State, the  Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba today visited  Ekiti State ahead of Saturday gubernatorial election. 

 Addressing officers and men of the Ekiti State Command, at the command headquarters Ado Ekiti he urged the officers and men to be professional in the discharge of thier duty. 

The IGP  also held a meeting with stakeholders  after his discussion with the officers stated CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi the spokesperson for the Force. 

He said "We are ready to police Nigeria, especially the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election in Ekiti". It was further gathered that the IGP also conducted air patrol of the state in a bid to boost the security of the state.
