-----NSCDC Officer, Fake Doctor, arrested
The Zamfara State Police Command has apprehended an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly supplying arms, ammunition, and drugs to bandits in the state, as reported by Channels Television.
Mohammed Dalijan, the Commissioner of Police, announced the arrest during a parade of suspects at the command headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara state.
Among those seized were a bogus doctor and two wives of prominent bandit leaders, who were supposedly on their way to transfer ammo to the bandits.
The NSCDC officer, named as ACS II Maikano S/Tasha, was allegedly apprehended with a big stockpile of ammunition, including AK-47 rounds and anti-aircraft projectiles, as well as illegal narcotics like cannabis.
According to CP Dalijan, Maikano was arrested two years ago but released. Dalijan promised that Maikano would not dodge justice under his watch.
"One of the unfortunate incidents we are dealing with is the arrest of a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps officer found in possession of arms and drugs intended for delivery to bandits in the Mada area," said Commander Dalijan.
"He was captured while delivering ammo and Indian hemp to the outlaws in the bush.
"He is a collaborator and will be treated accordingly."
The command also apprehended Mamuda Sani Makakari, a bogus doctor who was discovered with 441 live rounds of ammunition.
Investigations found that Makakari had been giving medical services to the bandits despite lacking proper medical qualifications.
He was captured with numerous women and children while transporting live ammo to distribute to bandits in the Anka Local Government Area.
Among the arrested ladies were the spouses of well-known bandit commanders, such as Kachalla Jijji and Bello Kaura.
"These women were apprehended while on their way to deliver ammunition to bandits in Anka and Bukkuyum," stated Superintendent Dalijan.
The police commissioner voiced alarm about the growing use of women in hijabs to transfer weaponry and ammunition throughout the state.
Our greatest concern right now is the involvement of women wearing hijabs in smuggling firearms to robbers.
We have no choice but to search all women passing through the state, regardless of whether they wear a hijab," he explained.
"We will ensure that women search women, but any woman on our roads must undergo thorough checks."
CP Dalijan further reported that the husbands of the jailed ladies had threatened to retaliate against local communities and police formations if the women were not released.
We are taking precautions to protect our employees and the public from potential assaults.
The women will not be released under any conditions. "If they [the bandits] attack, we will respond appropriately," the commissioner stated.
The police also detained two notable bandits: Aminu Tsauni, known for kidnapping and phone theft, and Salisu Hegen, a cattle rustler who worked for famed bandit commander Hassan Na-Bamamu.
All accused have apparently confessed to their crimes and will be prosecuted once the investigations are completed.
CP Dalijan reminded the people that the police force remains committed to eradicating crime and restoring peace in Zamfara State.
