ACVPN irked as police officer arrest, brutalizes Widower who went to buy food for his hungry children, connived with Task Force Office , Magistrate to send him to Kirikiri on trump up charges

---- victim calls on IGP to fish out and punish officer who  rendered him disabled

---- Task Force commander, Magistrate should be relieved of their positions , made to face the law for sending innocent Nigerians to prison ----ACVPN

-----Lagos state police command keeps mute on Police brutality of Widower.

A widower , Oseni Adewale  a father of three said he is a  victim of police brutality and the lack of fair hearing by the magistrate attached to the Task Force Office in Oshodi Lagos state Nigeria  .

Adewale , who is a commercial bus driver said he was   arrested  by the police attached to the Makinde Police station  and  his arrest, prosecution and incarceration for three weeks for alleged '' wandering '' at night  has  brought to the fore the need to look at the manner the Lagos state  Task Force office and Magistrate operate to the detriment of citizens ‘s human rights where young men are arrested and charged to court for alleged wandering at night.

This request  to look into alleged   human rights abuses by the police men attached to the  Makinde police station and their alleged co conspirators in the Task Force Office and Magistrate therein was made by  a non profit human rights group the Advocates For Children and Vulnerable   Persons Network (ACVPN) .

ACVPN ‘s request became necessary following series of cases the rights groups  said it has received from citizens over the alleged high handedness of the police in the Makinde police station. One of such cases of police brutality was reported by Mr. Adewale who is writhing in pains from the wounds on his body he claimed was inflicted on him by a police officer he  identified as Supol Akeem popularly known as Spider attached to the Makinde Police station.

Narrating his ordeal to ACVPN ,  the father of three said ‘’  My name is Oseni Wasiu Ajadi Adewale known as Oseni Wasiu aka Wasiu Royal. I am an Oyo state indigene, I was born in Ibadan, after graduating from secondary school in 2002, I came to Lagos for greener pasture and how to feed myself while working. I started working as a transporter, on the 14th of July, 2024, the commercial transport vehicle that I drove had mechanical fault at Iyana-Isolo,  it's not my vehicle, I usually deliver to the owner so I couldn't have left it there, so I got a mechanic to fix the bus so that I can present the bus to the owner, the repairs took my time till past 10pm in the evening’’

‘’On getting home, my children age 14, 10 and 6yrs old have not slept,  they told me the food I left for them before I left home has been eaten in the afternoon and they have nothing to eat in the evening, meanwhile their mother passed on about two months ago,  I know how I feel when am hungry so I couldn't have let them go to bed without food, so I left home that night to go buy food for them at a canteen nearby at Alhaja's place at Oshodi road, on my way back home to go feed my children,  I just noticed someone packed a vehicle closely behind me,  I noticed he is a police officer attached to Makinde Police Station at Oshodi known as Supol Akeem aka Spider. I pleaded with him and showed him the food I went to buy for my children but he was so heady and tough with me, he knows me very well within the community,  he knows I'm a commercial bus driver,  I begged him for minutes and he still made up his mind of taking me to the station with the foods I bought for my children, I live in a rented apartment, I'm not living in a family house that if my parents don't see me they will take care of my children, no one knew I was arrested at that moment and they didn't know how my phone got misplaced so I couldn't call anyone. As I continue begging him, he refused to listen to my plea,  he was holding an iron (base ball baton) which he used to hit me hard on my right leg,  I didn't even know it's something that will degerate to these level’’.

I knew the leg pained me excruciatingly ,  he then took me away by force with the foods in take away pack in my hand.

‘’I took it as a fate, believing the next morning he will let me go so I can go meet my children but to my surprise he ordered all of us  he picked that night to come out of the cell,  we were about 6 in number, some called their family who came to bail them,  those of us that couldn't reach out to our families were asked to write down our names,  he then ordered us to board the minibus known as korope, he then drove us to task force office at Oshodi without been caught stealing and not been in conflict with the law. I was told to write a statement at the task force office,  about 30 minutes later I was called along with others that the lawyer wants to see us.  I explained everything that happened to the magistrate, with all my plea, I was sentenced to 3 weeks in Kirikiri correctional centre,  I felt so bad and pained because my children don't know my whereabout or what happened to me’’.

When I got to Kirikiri my leg started developing much pains and started swelling up, on waking up the next day I noticed it has bursted due to the injury Supol Akeem aka Spider inflicted on me, since then it became a big soar till I left Kirikiri on 10th of August, 2024. Since then the pain continues,  I couldn't sleep or eat,  I can't do anything nor go to work because of the leg.  It's just dripping water and paining me. When I got to the health center at Oshodi, they said I will be treated just for today that if I want them to continue treating my leg I should get a police report, I wondered because I didn't sustain gunshot injury. The handcuff Supol Akeem used to tightened my hand inflicted serious injuries on my wrists,  the correctional centre at Kirikiri tried for me because they have health facility within, I was given medications and injections but it doesn't look like I got real treatment’’.

‘’I was taken to task force because I didn't see anyone to come bail me at Makinde Police Station. I was looking at my house ahead when the officer got me arrested. The food I went to buy for my children was taken a long with me to task force office, yet it was evident that I went to buy food for my children,  I showed the food to the magistrate, yet I got jailed for 3 weeks. I want the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of police to intervene and do the needful on the officer that almost killed me and rendered me disable’’

I want justice, I've been borrowing money to buy medications because he can no longer work as bus driver due to the injury the police officer inflicted on him. If i die on the spot that day of the incident i believe the police will throw my corpse away or parade my dead body as a thief. I want the police to pay my bills, pay compensation and also punish the officer that abused his office despite knowing me as a commercial bus driver, all because i couldn't reach out to my family as my phone got lost during the arrest and couldn't call anyone to bail me so he preferred sending me to jail because of personal interest.

My Children are also feeling the heat because their mother died two months ago, i couldn't fend for my  children as expected.

The public should also hear my cry and help me.

I was directed to the office of ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE PERSONS NETWORK ACVPN to get justice’’

Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile the Coordinator of ACVPN while condemning the brutality against the victim said ‘’ This is the most inhuman treatment Melted to a Non Offender citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is simply police brutality, abuse of office, human rights abuse, racketeering, agencies conspiracy theory and miscarriage of the criminal justice system against law abiding citizens of Nigeria. The alleged perpetrator Akeem aka Spider has been on our raider for time for his abusive behavior at every given opportunity. What correlation is this with Task Office and sentencing?Report has it that Akeem aka Spider has been transferred out of Makinde division on numerous occasions yet he finds his way back simply because he has his God fathers he often sends returns.Despite the victim showed and proofed that he went to get food for his three children Akeem still went ahead to treat him the way he did ,this simply means Akeem aka Spider has a personal vendetta against the victim despite he knows him as a commercial driver’’.

‘’What beat my imagination was the transfer to Task Force office simply because he didn't part with money Akeem aka Spider decided to rope the victim as a wonderer with full proof that he wasn't.The Task Force office in OSHODI is a breeding ground for criminally minded officers, the mistreatment melted to Non offenders is unimaginable, The TaskForce  office Commander should also face the wrath of the law for such animalistic behavior on a non offenders’’

Speaking further, Mr. Omejalile said ‘’The Lagos State of Ministry of Justice Annex office whether Mobile Court is a complete disgrace to the criminal justice system, despite the victim showed that he was wrongly arrested yet the sitting magistrate still went ahead and sentenced him for three weeks its a complete sham and a high level of Monkey Business between the Makinde Police Division, the TaskForce  Office and the Sitting mobile court. There has been several insinuations that they are generating revenue to the Commissioner of Police Lagos . ACVPN can beat its chest against such insinuations the present CP Lagos will never be associated with such unGodly act .Akeem aka Spider and his cohorts must face the consequences of their inactions through the Provost office .We won't be keep quiet on this’’.

When contacted , the Lagos state police command spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin said he was not available for comment .
