The police in Benue on Tuesday arraigned eight suspects before a magistrate’s court for culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy.
They were said to have killed six commuters while protesting the alleged killings in Tse Igba Uke and Aliade villages in Gwer Local Government Area of Benue by suspected herdsmen.
The accused were arrested last Thursday for alleged involvement in the killing of the commuters along the Ulpayango Federal Highway while protesting the reported attacks by herdsmen.
Northern City News had reported last Friday that the youths had barricaded the expressway during the riot which led to the death of the travellers.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP. Joel Moses, confirmed the development, saying the case would be diligently prosecuted to serve as deterrent to those who took laws into their hands.
He said the accused were remanded in Makurdi prisons and the case adjourned till May 17, 2017.
