Man rapes 16-year-old girl , throw her inside well to cover crime.

PUNCH Newspaper reports that 24-year-old man, Usman Mohammed Iyal, has confessed to raping a 16-year-old girl and attempting to murder her by throwing her into a well in Ambassadors Quarters, Katsina State.

Iyal told police that he committed the crime to avoid being exposed. His actions were thwarted when police launched a swift investigation and rescue operation, saving the victim unharmed.

According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq, Police Command Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on September 27, 2024. Arewa PUNCHgathered that the victim was sent on an errand by her mother when Iyal, armed with a knife, accosted and threatened her, then dragged her into an uncompleted building where he violently assaulted and raped her.

In a frantic attempt to cover up his heinous act, Usman Mohammed Iyal threw the 16-year-old victim into a well located nearby. After discarding her in the well, he hurled stones down into it, clearly intending to cause harm or even kill her. His actions, meant to silence the victim and eliminate any evidence of his crime, were thwarted by a swift response from law enforcement. The police, upon receiving the report of the missing girl, launched an urgent rescue operation. Fortunately, the victim was rescued in time and is now receiving medical care, while Iyal faces justice for his despicable actions.

The police also reported two other arrests Binta Muhammed, 35, for child cruelty, and three men Sabi'u Hassan, 34, Isiya Salisu, 30, and Aliyu Haruna, 20 for vandalism and theft.

“While on routine patrol, a team of police operatives, in collaboration with members of the vigilante, intercepted the syndicate around Kofar Durbi quarters, in possession of some quantity of electric armored cable, a sharp pointed iron bar, and a hacksaw reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned four other suspects now at large as their accomplices.

“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” Sadiq disclosed further.
