CLARIFYING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF FALOMO POLICE BARRACKS AND COMBATING MISINFORMATION

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) wishes to address recent misinformation and sensationalism in the media concerning the reconstruction of the Falomo Police Barracks, Lagos State. The barracks, previously in disrepair, will undergo a complete redesign and reconstruction to provide modern, habitable accommodations that reflect the dignity our officers deserve.

This project was initiated under the leadership of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and private sector partners through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The current IGP, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to improving officers’ housing by convening the first Nigeria Police Force Housing Summit on April 23-24, 2024. This summit brought together stakeholders to chart a sustainable path toward improved police welfare.

A nationwide assessment revealed that less than 25% of police personnel have access to adequate barracks accommodations, with 90% of existing barracks falling into severe disrepair. Many of these structures are dangerously unsafe, posing a clear risk to occupants. The urgent reconstruction of these facilities, including Falomo Barracks, is not only necessary but aligned with international best practices to ensure the safety and well-being of our officers.

The IGP, through the NPF Property Development and Construction Company, has leveraged PPP arrangements to rebuild existing barracks and provide affordable housing for officers. PPP models, which integrate private sector investment into public infrastructure, have been successfully adopted across various sectors in Nigeria, such as rail projects and university hostels, and globally in police housing initiatives.

Several countries around the world have successfully employed PPPs to provide modern housing for police personnel, with global examples of PPPs in Police Infrastructure including:

 • United Kingdom: PPPs have been utilized to develop and manage police estates and accommodations.

 • Australia: The New South Wales Police Force has partnered with private developers for residential facilities.

 • United States: Cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago have adopted PPP models for police housing.

 • Canada: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has engaged private developers for police accommodations.

 • South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco: These countries have implemented PPPs to address the housing needs of their police forces.

 • India and Singapore: State governments and police forces have collaborated with private developers to upgrade infrastructure and residential facilities.

 • Algeria and Ethiopia: These nations are actively pursuing PPP models to build thousands of housing units for police and military personnel.

The growing adoption of PPPs reflects a global trend toward sustainable infrastructure development and enhanced police welfare.

Contrary to recent reports, no officers were forcefully evicted from the Falomo Barracks. Occupants were given adequate notice, provided relocation assistance, and compensated with N2,000,000 each to secure alternative accommodation. Furthermore, they will receive monthly rent allowances in line with provisions for officers not residing in the barracks. Upon completion of the new facility, these officers will be allotted housing units, ensuring a seamless transition back to improved living conditions.

We urge the public to dismiss false narratives regarding this reconstruction and recognize the broader objective of enhancing police welfare. The NPF remains committed to the well-being of its personnel, understanding that dignified living conditions are essential to effective service delivery.

The rebuilding of Falomo Barracks reflects our unwavering resolve to provide safe, decent housing for officers, a vision that aligns with global standards and safeguards the future of those who serve. We appeal to the public to support these reforms, which aim to enhance the quality of life for our officers and strengthen the foundation of public service in Nigeria.

Some angry youths, on Sunday, burnt a Police station in Agenebode, the headquarters of Etsako East local government area in Edo State, over allegations of kidnappings and killings in the area by suspected hoodlums.

The irked youths claimed that the police were providing cover for the suspected hoodlums.

The people claimed that the criminal elements were kidnapping and killing people in the area for suspected organ harvesting.

The incident that led to this carnage according to a resident was the case of a young boy who was said to have been kidnapped some weeks ago and after ransom was paid, he was still not released.

It was gathered that the community youths were able to track the phone and the user was arrested and handed over to the police and that in the process, the user was traced to the head of the hoodlums in the area.

Apparently not satisfied with the way the police were handling the matter, the youths of the community were said to have stormed the police station and took away the suspect who it was gathered led them to the house of the hoodlums, where on prodding, allegedly confessed to them that several kidnapped victims have been killed buried in shallow graves after parts of their bodies have been harvested.

The infuriated youths dug out the decomposing body of the young man in the compound of the leader who had reportedly fled with his family and in the process of digging up the decomposing body, saw several bones believed to be that of human beings.

In anger, the youths were said to have burnt down the building and then the business centres and then stormed the police station and set it ablaze.

One of the youths said “Enough is enough, this must stop, police kill our children and still collect money from us, these kidnappers will kidnap our children, collect money and still kill them. They will collect, N2.5 million sometimes N3 million from us and still the victims.”

When contacted, the chairman of the Council, Mrs Benedicta Atoh was said to be too shocked to talk as claimed by one of his aides.

Man rapes 16-year-old girl , throw her inside well to cover crime.

PUNCH Newspaper reports that 24-year-old man, Usman Mohammed Iyal, has confessed to raping a 16-year-old girl and attempting to murder her by throwing her into a well in Ambassadors Quarters, Katsina State.

Iyal told police that he committed the crime to avoid being exposed. His actions were thwarted when police launched a swift investigation and rescue operation, saving the victim unharmed.

According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq, Police Command Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on September 27, 2024. Arewa PUNCHgathered that the victim was sent on an errand by her mother when Iyal, armed with a knife, accosted and threatened her, then dragged her into an uncompleted building where he violently assaulted and raped her.

In a frantic attempt to cover up his heinous act, Usman Mohammed Iyal threw the 16-year-old victim into a well located nearby. After discarding her in the well, he hurled stones down into it, clearly intending to cause harm or even kill her. His actions, meant to silence the victim and eliminate any evidence of his crime, were thwarted by a swift response from law enforcement. The police, upon receiving the report of the missing girl, launched an urgent rescue operation. Fortunately, the victim was rescued in time and is now receiving medical care, while Iyal faces justice for his despicable actions.

The police also reported two other arrests Binta Muhammed, 35, for child cruelty, and three men Sabi'u Hassan, 34, Isiya Salisu, 30, and Aliyu Haruna, 20 for vandalism and theft.

“While on routine patrol, a team of police operatives, in collaboration with members of the vigilante, intercepted the syndicate around Kofar Durbi quarters, in possession of some quantity of electric armored cable, a sharp pointed iron bar, and a hacksaw reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned four other suspects now at large as their accomplices.

“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” Sadiq disclosed further.

How 16 years old boy recruited friends to kill his female boss after hearing her discussing huge money transaction on the phone.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a fleeing suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a popular Akure-based caterer, Mrs Debbie Adeniyi Iyabode.

The 54-year-old businesswoman was killed in her house on Oda Road, Akure on July 25, 2024, five days after celebrating her birthday.

The spokesperson of the command, Funmi Odunlami, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 11, identified the suspect as Precious Kolawole, a 16-year-old secondary school student.

The PPRO also advised people to install CCTV cameras to enhance personal safety and security.

“It would be recalled that painstaking investigations had earlier led to the arrest of his accomplice, one Philip Emmanuel, aged 17 years, who in a voluntary statement expressed their individual degrees of involvement in the dastardly act.,” the statement read.

“The first suspect, Precious Kolawole, claimed to have heard Mrs Adeniyi talking about receiving a substantial amount of money through her bank account and, on the heels of this, recruited Philip Emmanuel, the second suspect, to jointly murder the victim gruesomely.

“Clinical investigation revealed knife wounds inflicted by Philip Emmanuel and machete cuts by Precious Kolawole, resulting in the death of the victim.

“It was also gathered that the victim successfully withdrew the sum of thirty thousand Naira from her account via her ATM card.

“While the suspect is still in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, it is pertinent to reiterate that safety measures like observing restraint in monetary discussions around domestic staff, concealing one’s ATM PIN, and installing CCTV surveillance cameras are necessary to optimize personal safety and security.”

Speaking to newsmen, the suspect said, “I wasn’t the one who conceived the idea. It was the boy who pressured and disturbed me, and I eventually gave in. I had an Android phone. Later, on September 18, I was arrested by the police. It was just the two of us.

“I work with a woman who is a caterer and the owner of Bola Country Kitchen. One of the boys who also works with her told me that he owed some money, and if he didn’t pay, his father would lose his job. His father is a police officer.

“He then asked me if I could kill someone, and I said no. I later changed my mind. On the third day after the incident, he gave me N30,000 and an Android phone. On September 18, I was a

rrested by the police.”

Soldiers allegedly stab policeman to death in Lagos.

Lagos State Police PRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin

Soldiers attached to the Ojo Cantonment Barracks led by a yet-to-be-identified colleague, who was accosted for driving against the traffic around Volks Bus Stop, along the Ojo Iyana Iba Road area of Lagos State have stabbed a policeman, Saka Ganiyu, to death.

PUNCH Online gathered that the soldier, who was not wearing his uniform, while driving an unregistered T4 Volkswagen commercial bus against the traffic, was stopped by policemen on enforcement duty at Volks Bus Stop.

Angered by the action of the policemen, it was learnt that an altercation ensued and the soldier contacted some of his colleagues, who reportedly trooped out of the Ojo Cantonment Barracks and attacked the policemen.

A document chronicling the circumstances surrounding the soldiers’ attack on the policemen indicated that Ganiyu sustained varying degrees of injury during the attack and was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for urgent treatment.

“However, the injured Inspector (Saka Ganiyu) later died in the hospital while undergoing treatment. The corpse was deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

“Meanwhile, the Commander 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, has been contacted and the erring soldier was taken into custody at their base,” the document read.

Our correspondent gathered that the identity of the soldier was yet to be revealed by the military authority as a thorough investigation by the homicide detectives had been initiated to ensure justice for the policeman.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundenyin, did not respond to calls and had yet to respond to a text message sent to his mobile phone as of the time of filing this report.

The spokesperson for the 81 Division Nigerian Army, Olabisi Ayeni, when contacted for a reaction, said, “Let me do my findings and get back to you.”

He had yet to get back to our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, soldiers are usually in the news for allegedly attacking and killing policemen in the line of duty in Lagos State.

In August 2022, an Inspector serving with the Lagos State Police Command, Orukpe Monday, died from the injuries he sustained during torture by soldiers who attacked him and his colleagues in the Trade Fair area of the state.

The soldiers were said to be on their way to a training programme at the Ojo Military Cantonment when they realised that the movement of the vehicle conveying them to the destination had become slow.

During an attempt to ascertain the cause, the soldiers, upon realising that policemen had stopped the vehicles ahead of them, got down and started challenging them, creating a fracas that escalated and led to Monday’s arrest and the torture that reportedly claimed his life.

How godfather 001 was tracked and arrested.

 ’

An operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Zofun Joseph Setonji, has narrated before a Lagos division of the Federal High Court, how a drug baron, Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede a.k.a Temo, was tracked and arrested on 22 July, 2024, following a credible information and surveillance placed  on him.

The drug lord, Temo who is also known as Godfather 001 is being tried before the court presided over by Justice Deinde Dipeolu by the NDLEA on a six count-charge of conspiracy, trafficking 704 Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa popularly called Ghana Loud, a drug similar to cocaine and heroin running of Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) and money laundering.

The offences which the NDLEA said contravened sections 20 (1)(g); 11(b); 11(c); 14(b) and (20(ii) of the NDLEA Act Cap N 30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section 20(2)(b) of the same Act.

The offence was also said to contravene Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 and punishable under section 18(3) and (7) of the same Act.

At the resumed trial of the drug baron last Friday, Setonji, while being led in evidence by the prosecutors, Mrs. Theresa Asuquo and Mr. Lambert Nor, the Head of Legal department of the agency’s Lagos Command, told Justice Dipeolu that while serving at the Gbagada head office of the agency as Officer in Charge of Squad 1, one of his informants sometimes in April 2023, told him that the drug baron, Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede will be bringing in some hard drugs from Ghana to Nigeria through the water.

He told the court that he asked the informant to go and survey the possible route through which the drug will be conveyed.

He added that in the last week of April 2023 l, the informant told him the drug will be coming that week.

Hence himself and his team then planned how to intercept it but the informant later called to inform him that the drug won’t be coming again that week as the defendant has gotten wind that NDLEA operatives are aware of the drug movement.

The witness said on the morning of 3rd of May 2023, “I got another information from my source that the consignment will be coming that night, I then planned with my team how to intercept the consignment at Eleko Beach as we have earlier identified the possible route.

“We went there to lay ambush with five vehicles, three marked vehicles and two unmarked vehicles. On getting there around 12 midnight on the 4th of May 2023 the informant called to inform me that they are already loading one of the trucks and that they are aware we are around.

“As a result of the new information I have to withdraw my men from where they were stationed and instructed our marked vehicles to go back to our head office at Shaw Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“After sometimes again, the informant called to inform me that the second truck is being loaded, I immediately called the marked vehicles to start coming back.

“The witness added that around 4.am on the 4th of May, he and his team were able to block the two trucks and during the process some armed men came out to attack them, however, we were able to arrest the two trucks but the occupants of the two vehicles were able to escape as a result of the attack on my men.

“When the contents of the trucks were counted eventually, it contains 202 bags of marijuana weighing 8.58 tons.”

Setonji further informed the court that: “while counting the contents of the truck, a call came in to him through a private telephone number and that when he asked who the caller was, the caller told him he is Alhaji Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede a.k.a.Temo.

“The caller further said “you have the guts to seize my drug, I know where you live, I am going to kill you and kidnapped your wife and children. However, in my reply I told him that before he kills me, I will definitely arrest you.”

The witness said that few weeks after, the seizure of the drug, he asked his informant how he can see the man called Temo and that the informant told him that there is going to be a party in the fortnight at Sango Ota, where Jimoh Olowoidiogede will be present but added that a special cap will be used as invitation card to enter the venue of the party.

“My informant also described Olowoidiogede to me, that he wears punk hair cut and always put on big and long necklace.

“Armed with this information I gave my informant N3,500 for the cap and on the day of the party I went to the party with the informant. On getting there the informant stood outside while I went inside to the party venue with the cap on.

“After sometimes, Olowoidiogede came in as described and people stood up and started hailing him I soon left the place after recognizing the defendant.

Giving further evidence, the witness said on the 22nd of July this year he had an encounter with Olowoidiogede. Adding that he went on a raid operation in Akala Mushin area of Lagos, but that the road was blocked forcing his team to take another road through one street called “Igbarere”.

“As we were going on the very narrow street of Igbarere, a Mercedes Benz SUV was coming towards us and trying to make way for us to pass due to the narrow condition of the road, I noticed Jimoh was inside the Jeep I then asked the driver to block the vehicle.

“As I came out of the vehicle, Jimoh also came out and started running, but I was able to arrest him despite his resistance and mobilisation of hoodlums to attacked and wounded my team members but I succeeded in arresting him and the other occupant of the SUV and took them to our office.”

Another prosecution witness, Mr Adewole Timothy, in his testimony stated that sometimes in 2023, he received credible information about the drug dealings of Temo and that he consequently went on surveillance to ascertain the authenticity of the information.

The witness added that after authenticating the veracity of the information he planned how his team will go about it.

The witness said: “On July 25, 2024, I led my team on an operation at Igbarere Street, Mushin, Lagos. And that at about 11 p.m, a Toyota Highlander SUV drove by one Sulaimon Shehu with Jimoh inside drove pass them. The moment he (Temo) realised that NDLEA men were around he stopped in front of numbers 32, Igbarere Street, jumped out of the car and escaped by mixing with the crowd.”

Timothy said the defendant later mobilised hoodlums to attack them as they were loading the bags of Marijuana in the warehouse located within the defendant’s house into the agency’s Hilux pick-up Van and car having arrested the driver of the SUV, one Sulaimon Shehu.

The witness further informed the court that 18 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 252 kg were evacuated from the warehouse and taken to NDLEA office at Ajah, Lagos and later to the Lagos Command Headquarters at Gbagada, where it was handed over to the exhibits keeper, Nketa Benjamin, who carried out field text on same and that it proved positive to be marijuana.

The witness, while being cross-examined by Temo’s lawyer, Chief Benson Ndakara, said the driver of the Toyota Highlander Sulaimon Shehu admitted in his statement that he is a close associate of Alhaji Sulaimon Jimoh Olowoidiogede, a.k.a godfather, 001, Temo, and that Temo owns the drugs found in the warehouse.

Asked by Ndakara on wether he verified from the Land Registry if number 32, Igbarere Street belongs to the defendant, the witness said his informant confirm same to him.

When asked if he breaks into the defendant’s warehouse, the witness responded and said: “Yes, because the key to the warehouse was with the defendant who had escaped during the operation.”

Also, the ninth prosecution witness in the trial, Nketai Benjamin, an Exhibits Keeper with NDLEA, in his testimony told the court how on the 23rd of May 2023, some officers of NDLEA led by PW7 brought 4 trucks to him.

“The first one contained 149 red sack and the others contained 47 sacks. I brought one sack from each trucks to carried out test and the results proved positive to be Cannabis Sativa.”

Benjamin further added that the Certificate of Test Analysis, Packing of Substance Form and Request for Scientific Aid Form had earlier been tendered in an ongoing case before Justice Allagoa. Hence the photocopy was tendered without objection as Exhibit 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, defendant’s counsel, Ndakara on Friday moved the Motion for the bail application of the defendant, while the prosecution also moved and argued their counter affidavit to the bail summons.

Justice Dipeolu, after listening to both parties, adjourned further hearing in the matter till October 15 and 16, 2024, while held that the date for ruling on motion for bail will be communicated to the parties involved.

The Amended charge against the defendant reads: “That you Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoogede, a.k.a “Godfather” “001”, “Temo” (m) adult (being the Kingpin) and Ojo Emmanuel (M), Wasiu Olayinka saliu (M), Taofeek , Noah (M) and Kazeem (M) (all at large) being members of a Drug Trafficking Organisation (DTO) between 2020 and 2024 without lawful authority and within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court engaged in financing Drug Trafficking and thereby committed an offence as provided for in section 20 (1) (g) of the NDLEA Act Cap N 30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section 20(2) (b) of the same Act.

A’court acquits man sentenced to life imprisonment for ‘defiling’ niece

The court of appeal in Lagos has discharged and acquitted one Ismail Abdulmodiu of allegations of defilement.

On March 9, 2023, Abiola Soladoye, Lagos high court judge, convicted Abdulmodiu on a one-count charge and sentenced him to life imprisonment for allegedly defiling his niece.

The case marked  ID/16613C/2021 was filed by the Lagos state government in 2021.

During the trial, the prosecution presented five witnesses and seven exhibits to support their case and the court held that the evidence was convincing.

Aggrieved, Abdulmodiu filed an appeal against the Lagos high court’s judgment.

On June 28, a three-member panel of the court of appeal acquitted the accused of the allegation and set aside the judgment of the lower court.

Mohammed Mustapha who read the lead judgment, held that the respondent (Lagos state) failed to show sufficient evidence (including a medical report to  to prove vaginal penetration was done by the appellant) to prove the offence of defilement.

The appellate court held that evidence given by the witnesses contradicted that of the victim who testified as PW1.

“Clearly these pieces of evidence fell far short of the corroboration required to validate the evidence of PW1; yet the lower court abysmally relied heavily on these pieces of evidence in convicting the appellant,” Mustapha held.

The court held that “by the apparent contradictions in her statements, the PW1 (victim) in my view rendered her evidence completely unreliable, at best. She had shown herself to be a remorseless liar”.

The justice also faulted the high court for disregarding the testimony of DW1, a neighbour of the victim and accused person who said that the victim was vindictive and of questionable character.

“The evidence of DW1, which the lower court chose to ignore has shown, the PW1, in my opinion, to be a dangerous young lady who could viciously lash out at anyone who offends her,” the justice said.

“These taken together with all other evidence clearly paint a picture of a vindictive, stop-at-nothing young lady. Enough, whichever way you look at these, and the available evidence, to create serious doubt in the mind of the court.

“This is more so, in view of the fact that the evidence of PW1’s malicious intent was not rebutted. It is always important in matters like this to emphasize, the lower court’s duty to consider all exhibits tendered, holistically, before arriving at its conclusion, in the interest of justice.

“In the final analysis, a thorough consideration of the evidence adduced so far leaves one in no doubt as to the failure of the respondent to discharge its burden of proving this allegation of defilement beyond reasonable doubt.

“Thus, the conviction and sentence of the appellant in the circumstances scream of miscarriage of justice against the appellant.

“It is for these reasons that I now resolve the sole issue for determination in favour of the appellant, against the respondent.

“Accordingly, the appeal succeeds, and it is hereby allowed. Judgment of the high court of Lagos state, sitting in Ikeja, delivered on the 9th of March, 2023 in charge No ID/16613C/2021 is hereby set aside. The appellant is discharged and acquitted.”

Four SA policemen arrested after for alleged jewelry theft , leave finger prints during robbery.

Jewellery heist: Four South African police officers arrested for robbing Nigerian man of Rolex watches, gold bracelets, emeralds worth over R20 million

Four South African Police officers accused of pulling off a R20 million jewelry heist at a Nigerian man's house in Llandudno, Cape Town, have been sent to prison after their bail hearing was postponed to next week.

Jacobus Adriaan Groenewald, Bradley Dimitri Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya and Bathandwa Soldati appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, October 3, 2024,  on aggravated robbery charges after they were busted by the Anti-Corruption Unit over the past two weeks.

The officers, who form part of the Operation Restore Unit and are stationed across Cape Town, are accused of staging a robbery at the home of a popular Nigerian rapper, who has yet to be named.

This week, Western Cape police revealed that following the robbery of the homeowner on September 14, a massive investigation led to the arrest of the four cops.

A source said the arrested cops are part of a group of eight who allegedly used their official SAPS uniforms and vehicles to carry out house robberies in the upmarket suburb.

“Those caught are four of eight officers behind this whole thing," the source said.

“They went to the home of a rich Nigerian and told those in the house they were searching for a wanted Nigerian but instead they stole jewellery valued at R20 million.

“They are so stupid they left their fingerprints all over the house as they stole Rolex watches, gold bracelets, emeralds and ivory items. It was all brand names. But they definitely planned the robbery. They are based at different stations but basically they formed a syndicate,” the source said.

The source revealed that the suspects were dressed in full uniform and even used state vehicles in the robbery.

"They actually placed false plates on the SAPS vehicles but were caught because the SAPS tracking system placed them on the scene.

"In the police your DNA and fingerprints are recorded and that is how they were linked after the homeowner opened a case.”

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed the arrests and said they were investigated by the Western Cape Anti-Corruption Unit.

“On September 14 at about 1.35am a house robbery occurred at the premises of a foreign national in Sunset Avenue, Llandudno, allegedly involving several police officers. This case was reported at Hout Bay police and transferred to the Western Cape Ant-Corruption Unit for further investigation," he stated.

“Investigation by seasoned detectives led to the arrest of police members over a period of time.

“A 44-year-old sergeant was arrested on the same day at 35 Squadron in Belhar and later a 28-year-old constable was arrested at Gugulethu SAPS.”

Both appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on September 17. The case was then postponed to October 3 for bail application.”

Van Wyk said further investigations led to the arrest of a 33-year-old sergeant in Bellville two days later.

On Wednesday, the unit pounced on a 38-year-old sergeant at Philippi SAPS after the member was linked through fingerprints found at the crime scene.

Western Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile praised the investigation team for the arrests and said police officers are supposed to uphold the law and protect the public.

“Let this serve as a warning to those who think they can abuse the resources of the state for their disgraceful purposes,” he said.

The Western Cape Provincial Community Police (CPF) Board condemned the actions of the officers.

Spokesperson Justin Kumlehn said: “This shameful betrayal of trust not only violates the oath these officers took to serve and protect, but it also undermines the crucial relationship between the police and the communities they are sworn to safeguard.

“Corruption among law enforcement officials breaks the bond of trust between the police and the community. These officers were entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the law and protecting citizens from harm, yet their alleged actions have brought dishonour to the badge.

“This type of behaviour erodes the confidence that the public has in SAPS, and it threatens the integrity of the entire system."

Chairperson of the Llandudno Special Ratings Area, Kiki Loubser, confirmed they are aware of the incident.

“We are co-operating with Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch Community Crime Prevention Unit and SAPS and have faith that the situation will be dealt with appropriately,” Loubser said.

It came to light yesterday, that Soldati, who was originally stationed at Athlone police station, was the person whose fingerprints were found on the scene and was subsequently added to the charge sheet.

During court proceedings on Thursday, Groenewald, Minnaar and Mafanya were expected to apply for bail but this was stalled as Soldati was added to the charge sheet.

It was highlighted that Soldati needed time to consult with his legal representatives and the bail hearings were postponed to October 10.
