How in the world will anyone in his or her right sense attack and kill a vulnerable elderly person who had retired from active service and all she wanted was to enjoy her retirement and the rest of her life.

Late Mrs Olaitan Gbenle had great plans as he had retired but sadly, she was brutally murdered in her apartment around Agbede Agbofiati Community, Apata area Ibadan in November, 2023.

Unknown to her ,she had fallen victim to men of the underworld courtesy of her neighbour but the young fellow instead of being a good neighbour to the elderly woman , sadly saw her as an easy target so he led his gang of armed robbers to her house to rob her of her retirement proceeds, her property and the deadly gang did not stop there as they ensured they killed her in the process.

The police in Oyo state while narrating how dastardly the murder of Mrs. Gbenle is said the young neighbour was the one who had informed his fellow colleagues in crime that she was rich , and they should come and rob her.

The police added that as if it was not enough to target an elderly person, when the suspected armed robbers forcefully gained entry into the deceased's house , they ensured they tortured her , gagged her mouth , tied her hands and while she was tied up and writhing in pain, the heartless criminals went on to get food from her kitchen, ate the food right in presence as she struggled in pain.

When the suspected criminals were done eating , they killed her because she had recognized her young neighbour.

The police commissioner in Oyo state , CP Adebola Hamzat stated that the armed robbers made away with the deceased's property which include her two vehicles, generator, laptops, phones and cash.

He added that through painstaking forensic investigations, the police arrested four suspects including her young neighbour who allegedly jointly participated in the killing of the deceased

The CP said

As if that was not enough, the suspects eventually murdered the deceased, leaving her in a pool of her own blood.

In furtherance of the above and upon the receipt of the incident’s petition, the Command was swayed to immediately identify, track and apprehend all the perpetrators of the heinous crime and recovered all the items carted away.

Sequel to this, a team of forensic experts and detectives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit immediately swung into action through detailed intelligence gathering and purposeful investigations, the suspected leader of the armed robbery syndicate, one BELLO OLALEKAN ‘M’ and two of his syndicate members identified as BISIRIYU OLALEKAN and SIMEON OJEI ‘M’ were arrested at their various hideouts in connection with the crime.

Upon interrogations, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime while the leader of the suspected criminal gang explained that the victim was murdered because he realized the deceased saw him during the armed robbery operation.

"It was even worse for the husband who tried to play a hero as he was almost killed. That chilled night in July 2023, the suspects parted with 2 bags filled with baby clothing and accessories and their Toyota Venza vehicle.
