LASG DEMOLISHES SHANTIES ON LEKKI COASTAL ROAD

Lagos State Government has reiterated its preparedness to monitor and prevent future encroachment  and illegal occupation of any part of Lekki Coastal Road, which serves as alternate route to Lekki – Epe Road, just as it demolished thousands of shanties and kiosks on the road.

The Chairman of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce), CSP Shola Jejeloye, stated this after the removal of shanties and kiosks at Marwa Ghetto, Lekki, over the weekend.

The team, led by the Chairman, Lagos State Taskforce had visited the ghetto two weeks before a 3-day removal notice was served to warn the occupants to vacate the road for its construction.

The State Government had in December 2019, demolished all structures built on the road to pave way for its usage by motorists and other road users.

CSP Jejeloye noted that the exercise was carried out to allow for the construction of the coastal road linking Lekki to the Free Trade Zone. He added that the road would also serve as an alternative route to Lekki – Epe Expressway to enhance free flow of traffic on the corridor.

“We have enlightened the occupants on the strategic nature of the road they have built their shanties. Unfortunately, immediately it was cleared in 2019, they mobilized themselves and extended their occupation of the road.

They have turned it into hideouts for criminals. They sell drugs and some of these were siezed during our assessment of the area. Traffic robbers and other dangerous criminals dwell here. These can’t be allowed to thrive in Lekki, not even Lagos”, he added

He pointed out “the essence of the demolition is to monitor the place and safeguard it so that criminals don’t return to the place again. Government has done this in Whitesand, Ijora and other places. This is a road and nobody would use it if these criminal hideouts are not removed. No member of the public would use it if these shanties are not removed.

It is the commitment of the State Government to decongest Lekki – Epe Expressway, therefore, there is need to open up this road for residents and law abiding people to use”.

Operatives attached to the Benue command  of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested three armed bandits; Adamu Shehu, Tukur Mohammed and Ibrahim Suleiman while on alleged attack mission in Katsina state, with three AK 47 rifles among other dangerous items recovered them.
This is even as a heavy weapon manufacturer, Celestine Chidiebere Christian, has been arrested with a high calibre G3 rifle along with seventy-eight (78) rounds of life ammunition (RLA) of 7.62mm calibre and five empty shells of same in Benue while trying to move the heavy weapon and ammunition to Jos, Plateau state.
The arrests and seizures were made at NDLEA checkpoints in the two states where narcotic officers stop and search vehicles for illicit drugs. Speaking when the Benue state command was handing over the high calibre G3 rifle and the suspect to the Agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on Thursday 12th August, 2021, Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) noted  that the NDLEA will continue to support efforts by other security agencies especially the armed forces to restore law and order across the country.
“For us at NDLEA, we’ll continue to do our best with our highly dedicated officers and men to cut off accessibility to illicit drugs by criminal gangs by blocking the trafficking of these psychoactive and psychotropic substances. In doing this, we’ll not shy away from complementing the efforts of other security agencies especially our armed forces in our collective bid to restore security and maintain law and order in all parts of the country”, Gen. Marwa stated.
According to him, “the three armed bandits were arrested by our officers on patrol in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina on Thursday 5th August, on their way from Igabi LGA of Kaduna state to Kankara LGA in Katsina for another devilish mission. A Toyota Corolla car with registration number Kaduna TRK 149 AE, three AK 47 rifles with magazines and ammunition, different types of charms, rings, cash and other items were recovered from them. I have since directed they be handed over to the Army Brigade in Katsina for further investigation.
Speaking on the transfer of the high calibre weapon manufacturer to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, Gen. Marwa said “from the briefs given by the Benue state command, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 4th August 2021 at exactly 6:30am, in a bus belonging to CHI-Boy Transport Company, enroute Onitsha to Jos when the vehicle was flagged down at Aliade check-point for search.  In the process, an iron box completely welded end to end was found in the vehicle, and when the passengers were questioned to know the owner, the suspect, accepted ownership.
“When the steel box was taken to the State Command headquarters along with the suspect, an electric filing machine was used to cut it open a fabricated high calibre G3 rifle along with seventy-eight (78) rounds of life ammunition (RLA) of 7.62mm calibre and five empty shells of same were discovered inside. However, I asked that Celestine Chidiebere Christian be transferred to Abuja because of the calibre of weapon found with him, which he claims he manufactures.”
The NDLEA Chairman commended the Katsina and Benue state commands for their vigilance and unrelenting commitment to the mandate given the agency by President Muhammadu Buhari to rid the country of illicit substances and ultimately secure the nation from the activities of criminal gangs.

Family threaten, police pressure woman for reporting hubby who defiled three daughters

Family members of one Mr Emeka Christopher Orisakwe  who has been  allegedly defiling his three daughters aged 4,6,and 8 years old  have threatened his wife Mrs. Orisakwe for exposing his crime.
It was gathered that aside this threat, policemen from the Lagos state command also allegedly  pressured Mrs Orisakwe to withdraw the allegations.
It was gathered that the defilement  was reported at the Satellite police station  but the wife was forced to backed down because of pressure from family members and the police sources said.
 "They

asked her who will take of her and her children's education if the man was arrested and detained.  I was informed in June that they had family meeting between the families and warned the  man never to do what he had done.  According to the mother her brothers promised to act if they had any more news of his act.
Now that he is continuing because he did it again with the four year old two weeks ago according to the mother. Her husband's family still don't believe that the man is doing such s thing and blaming the woman for accusing their son wrongly. The lady is traumatized. The lady is insisting that she is not interested in the case any more and wants to return to the village where her family had planned to meet with them to settle the issue I was called by the wife of the suspect this morning after I left their house that the IPO from Agboju called her that they were visiting her. I said that's fine and advised her to inform them about the threat she was receiving from her husband family. Just two minutes ago she called me that the police actually came from Ikeja and pleaded with her to withdraw the case, stating that the case is a family case, that the man is the bread winner of the family and nobody will assist her if anything happened to the man. She said they told her that the man may die if the case continued and that nobody has given the man food since yesterday. They have asked her to go tomorrow and withdrawn the case. They want to settle the matter at home in the village. She doesn't want anyone to pressurize her"

Following the threats, it was gathered that child rights advocates under the auspices of Advocates For Children And Vulnerable Persons Network ACVPN saw to it that  the randy father was  detained at the Gender Unit Lagos state police command  headquarters Ikeja.
The advocates also called on the Deputy Commissioner of Police SCID Panti to intervene concerning the suspect' s family threatening to deal with the mother of these victims if they should step foot in their house
The source said "They are sleeping somewhere tonight because the man had changed the locks before she got home. We were told by WARIF centre that there is an established case of sexual assault after examination of the kids and the results will be sent to Gender Ikeja . The Husband had claimed that his wife had mental problems and that nobody should take her serious but conversations with the woman reveals otherwise"
We also raised objections about going to WARIF instead of Mirabel close by but the officers on ground said that they have also been sending cases to
MIRABEL so decided to send us to WARIF so it won't be one sided".
It was gathered that a chief from the village has  been pressuring the wife Mrs Orisakwe and the child rights advocates  to withdraw the case from the police station stating that the defilement is an abomination in their village and  rituals need to be performed to cleanse the suspect and the girls from damnation and sudden death.
The child rights advocates however maintained that justice must be served in a law court as they informed Mrs Orisakwe that she would be supported financially to cater for her children when the randy father is behind bars.
Efforts to get a comment from the Lagos state police command was not successful. Sources said  at the time of this report ,the new Lagos State police command spokes person CSP Ajisebutu is yet to assume office.
