Nigeria Prison Service gave prefential treatment to an inmate Cross dresser Bobrisky as he got well funished "cell", Fridge, TV, other inmates running errands for him , delicious self paid meal, visitors at will , phone--- FG Panel

An alleged bribe  to prison officials to secure exclusive  privileges by an inmate cross dresser Mr.  Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky has been exposed by a panel in Nigeria .

A Federal Government investigative panel has confirmed that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, enjoyed several exclusive privileges while serving his six-month prison sentence at the Kirikiri prison in Lagos.

The crossdresser had been jailed in April 2024 following a naira abuse incident, but the panel's findings have raised concerns about unequal treatment of inmates within Nigeria’s correctional system.

The panel’s report, presented by Uju Agomoh at the Ministry of Interior, disclosed that Bobrisky accessed several amenities typically unavailable to other inmates.

These included a furnished single cell, a humidifier, a fridge, and a television. The report further revealed that Bobrisky had the freedom to self-feed, receive frequent visits from family and friends, use designated inmates for errands, and possibly access a mobile phone during his incarceration.

Agomoh clarified that the panel found no evidence supporting claims that Bobrisky slept outside the custodial facility during his imprisonment.

The crossdresser was transferred between three facilities—from the Kuje Custodial Centre to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, and later to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre—before his release on August 5, 2024.

The panel pointed out that moving Bobrisky to a maximum-security facility as a first-time offender contradicted Section 164A and Section 164B of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019.

The report criticized this irregularity, calling for clear guidelines to prevent discriminatory practices that favor wealthy or influential inmates.

The investigation follows viral allegations by popular blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who accused Bobrisky of bribing correctional officers to secure preferential treatment.

Otse alleged that Bobrisky paid millions of naira to access luxury facilities in prison and avoid harsh conditions.

Additionally, he claimed Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges linked to his naira-spraying case.

In response to the allegations, Bobrisky denied any wrongdoing, and both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) launched investigations.

The House of Representatives also intervened, inviting key figures involved in the case for further probing. Meanwhile, the Federal Government suspended several senior NCoS officials pending the outcome of the investigation.

On September 30, 2024, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, inaugurated a committee to probe the allegations of corruption and misconduct within the NCoS, with particular attention to Bobrisky’s case.

Tunji-Ojo instructed the committee to deliver its report within two weeks, emphasizing that no one, regardless of status, would be shielded from accountability.

“The investigation will be thorough, and nobody will be shielded,” the minister assured the public.

This unfolding saga highlights issues of corruption and the unequal treatment of inmates in Nigeria's prison system, raising the need for reforms to ensure fairness and transparency.
