Police to pay N20M damages for brutalising woman in Ekiti A state High Court sitting in Ikere Ekiti on Monday awarded a sum of N20m damages against the Ekiti State Police Command for illegal detention and brutalization of a 51-year-old woman. The presiding Judge, Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi, also awarded another N250,000 cost against the police to cover the medical expenses of the woman as a result of the unlawful detention and beating she suffered in detention. The victim, Mrs. Sola Aregbesola, was mercilessly tortured and detained for 72 hours at Ilawe Police Station in October 2016 over an illicit love affair between her husband and another woman. According to reports, Aregbesola had been arrested by the police, on the orders of her husband’s mistress who had earlier attack her with hot soup, inflicting serious bodily injuries and causing deformation on her. The mother of five claimed that she lost the use of one of her eyes as a result of the brutality she suffered at the hands of the policemen.
